Clint Catalyst's Best of 2007 List

"Clint Catalyst tells us his favorite things of '07 all the while giving shout-outs to Buzznet members as well....in true Clint form."

Top 10 Misc.

Most listened to Record:

According to my iPod stats, Placebo's - Meds, LCD Soundsystem's - Sound of Silver and Maritime's - We, The Vehicles dominated this past year. It's interesting to click on "Most Played," as I'd nearly forgotten how often I played Maritime last Spring. My friend William still cringes at the mention of the band's name-- that's how much I burned him out on them.

Most listened to Song:

"Boys" by The Autumns. It's funny; I was cast for the video without having ever heard the band. I fell in love with the track during filming-- rather than the inverse, which is often the case.

Best Concert:

PlanningToRock at the Henry Fonda. Total home-spun aural and visual art. Jared flew in from SLC for the show, as she only played three dates in the States. Fortunately one of them was here in L.A.

Concert/tour you were most bummed that you missed:

Morrissey...who pretty much kept me alive throughout my formative years. Since I'm no longer an enthusiastic teen, however, I couldn't deal with the hassle that is the Hollywood Palladium. I wish he would've performed at the Hollywood Bowl. Shows are such a great
experience there: the open air, excellent sound, and ability to bring in a picnic basket with friends to sit back and 'take it all in.

Best musical surprise of the year:

I Love You But I've Chosen Darkness. I stumbled onto the track "Thoughts on the Floor" in an MP3 blog and was like: where'd these guys pop up from? Austin, surprisingly. Charlotte Gainsbourg was another surprise. I'm usually "anti" on the nepotism tip, but "Operation" is an effing brilliant song.

Worst musical letdown of the year:

The Honorary Title's latest release. I love Anything Else But The Truth enough to swell my heart to bursting, yet somehow I can't seem to connect to a single track on Scream and Light Up the Sky. Hopefully that'll change.

Favorite Movie:

"Control." Sam Riley's performance is phenomenal: his vocals, awkward movements, and subtle nuances seem as if the spirit of Ian Curtis inhabits him.

Favorite TV Show:

As if there's only one! As far as I'm concerned, television programming is the best it's ever been. My favorites are "Dexter," "Weeds," "Ugly Betty," "Heroes," and "Project Runway"... but I'll also fess up to being a fan of "Gossip Girl" and "Dirty Sexy Money."

Person/Thing Blowing Up:

Chris Crocker. He's another little Southerner who "made it out," and I'm glad to see good things are happening for him. Oh yeah, and my pal Lisa D'Amato, as well! Tits out for her perseverance-- and the record deal that's come from it.

Person/Thing Falling Off:

Celebrities on the cover of fashion magazines. Don't Americans get enough of them in all the stupid tabloids and gossip websites? I want to see Agyness Deyn and Mariacarla Boscono throwing full-on glamour my direction from the cover of Harper's Bazaar and Vogue...not Jennifer Love Hewitt! And men's Vogue? Couldn't be more milquetoast. I can't tell you how bummed I am that even L'Uomo Vogue seems to have become infected by American celeb-worship. Let models be MODELS, for F's sake! Isn't there enough "wish fulfillment" in that? Another thing I'm not into about 2007? Illiteracy. It astounds me
how many people I've come into contact with who have never read an entire book. Not. One. Book? Pathetic. I'm beyond the point of being concerned; now I'm just straight-up disgusted. Learning new acronyms for text messaging is not the end-all, be-all, kids. That's why I've gotta give a big shout-out to Buzznet beauties like xMissPreternaturalx (a.k.a. Alex Anomaly), who's testament to the fact that it's possible to look cool and be literate at the same time. They're NOT mutually exclusive. The same goes for Eris Startle, Ander M., SelmaSTFU and many others... it'd be too easy to cull from my 'Top Friends.' My statement is specifically aimed at teenagers; that's why I'm using the young-ins as an example. =]

PLEASE VISIT THE WEB ADDRESS LISTED ABOVE IF YOU'RE INTERESTED IN THE RESPONSES I RECEIVED. (I mean, there are just far too many comments on this site for me to digest. Geez! I'd better stick to MySpace and Buzznet-none of the members of those sites seem to look at anything I have to say!)

Sarcasm much?

Oh wait. I should keep that shite to a minimum in 2008...
