It has been quite some time since I posted last - work has been fairly busy and kept me away from home for most of November. I spent the first few weeks of December recuperating and spending time with my wife and son - last weekend was one of the best I have ever had with my little guy!
I managed to get a coach, as I may have blogged about previously, for IMC and this was the first month that training was supposed to start. For the first four weeks he has us on a basic get back into the swing of things with 3 bike, 3 run, and 2 swims per week - low distances and moderate effort levels.
Unfortunately, with the working, and the inherent laziness that I posses, I have only managed about 1-1/2 runs and 1-1/2 bike rides per week with no swimming, so I am approximately 40% of plan.
This will have to be the week where I really turn it on and get in the pool - I do have an early morning meeting Tuesday so may miss that swim, or I will hit the swim and then head directly to the meeting, will have to work that out.
The main point for the blog is that I wanted to say how amazingly happy I am at the performance of my wife from her run yesterday. As I’ve posted before, she was doing a learn-to-run program with her work over the past 10 weeks and yesterday was the culmination of the program with her first ever 10 km run, which she completed in 60 minutes 37 seconds (so close to going under 1 hour) - her friend managed 59:55 to beat the 1 hour barrier. Well Done Lesley, I Love You!
It was a great experience - given that I’ve run with the group quite a few times, they let me come out and run with them and I managed to go 45:05, which is my fastest time to date - with adequate training and the ability to breath, I think I will go sub 40 minutes, or close to it, in the Sun Run this year.
The run was difficult for all of us as the weather was severely cold (picture kids skating on the outdoor rink beside where we were running), which made it difficult to breath, to the point that my heart rate was elevated to 188 bpm for most of the run (max is 193…).
After the run we headed over to the organizer’s house where he had an amazing breakfast feast set out for us and we all showered, ate like kings and queens and headed home (likely for a nap for most of us).
The training will pick up, the blogging will pick up, and until next time - best of luck in your training everyone!
