So, I now work in the only ER in a fairly small town. One might even call it a college town. The college is one of those huge schools that could be anywhere in the world, as far as the students are concerned anyway. Is there a difference between getting shitfaced in Nebraska or California? I doubt it.
Anyway, we see a lot of drunken college kids Thursday through Saturday night. One night last weekend was particularly hellish. Some sorority had a formal. Apparently they do a pretty good job of policing underage drinking at these things, which is not necessarily a good thing.
A group of about 10 young women decided that in the couple hours before the formal, they would drink enough to last them through the entire night. At about 9 pm we were completely inundated by vomiting, screaming, and/or comatose 19 year olds.
On the one hand it was pretty funny to see them with puke spilling down their formal wear. On the other hand, it was pretty disturbing to see the way they acted. One of them told us that we had to let her go to the party because her daddy is an ER physician. "Really? Can we call him for you?" "Uh... Never mind."
One of them got violent and actually kicked a cop, and one of our docs. She actually kicked the doc twice. No offense to the doc, but the second time you get kicked, it's your fault. Anyway, her dreams of law school are all but over after being arrested for assaulting a cop and a doc. There's really no two worse people you could assault.
