Never thought I'd ever do it

But I finally took a yoga class. And not just any yoga class. A tough-ass power yoga class (Baptiste Power Vinyasa, to be exact) where they heat up the room to like 95 degrees, so you're already sweating as soon as you walk into the room.

Here's the link to their site.

Never took yoga before. I went cuz a climbing friend of mine told me about this yoga class she was taking and how it helps in strengthening her core for climbing. I said "what the hell", I'll try anything once that would help with core development and improving flexibility.

This was the toughest-ass instructor-lead class that I have ever taken. Period. I really thought it would be tame, where i just needed to work in stretching out. Hell-freakin-no. I was hitting some really strong movements. Some I just could not do cuz it was either too strong for me right now, or I lack the flexibility needed to do it. And the whole time, I was sweating buckets. I mean I was forming puddles on my yoga mat. Talk about serious detoxing. I was 2/3 of the way thru the class, already ran out of bottled water, and almost passed out.

It was awesome.

What was motivating was that everyone in that class (about 40, of which 36 were women) was in excellent shape and conditioning. And they were sweating as much as I was! Because the class gets packed, there is tape on the floor to indicate where you're supposed to line up your yoga mat. You couldn't just throw it down anywhere you wanted. The distance between each mat was about 1.5 inches. Seriously. So you were that close to the person on each side of you. But I didn't care. And it had nothing to do with the fact that the gals in the class were extremely hot-looking and sweaty. I mean, when you're that close, you can see the beads of sweat on them, and how it runs down their smokin body, and....ok, I digress.

I had no idea anything that the instructor was saying. I just copied every movement that people were doing. Gals gave me pointers whenever I needed it, but in the end I must've done pretty good, because a couple of them were impressed when I told them I never did yoga before. They said I was a natural. Yay me lol.

Funny thing, I expected the class to stink. Especially with everyone sweating. But that wasn't the case at all, unless my nose was acclimated to the smell. No B.O., no nothing. Maybe when you're perspiring that much, it doesn't smell. I don't know.

Any class that kicks my ass and is challenging like that is for me. I took the class again the following week. Did much better than before in terms of technique in movements and not tiring out as much. I knew what to expect the 2nd time around so I had a huge bottle of water.

So I've decided to incorporate yoga as part of my regular fitness routine. I plan on taking the 4-week beginner class so I can learn the terminology and know what the fuck they're talking about (instead of just mimicking). My current whacked-out schedule now looks like this:

Monday: strength training (heavy weight, low reps) [2 hrs], 4-man volleyball [1 hr]
Tuesday: 6-man volleyball [1 hr], indoor bouldering [3 hrs]
Wednesday: cardiovascular training (spin or kick-boxing class) [1 hr], strength endurance training (low weight, many reps) [1 hr]
Thursday: tennis [~1.5 hrs], 4-man volleyball [1 hr], indoor bouldering [2 hrs]
Friday: chill break
Saturday: volleyball practice [2-3 hrs], strength endurance training [1 hr]
Sunday: power yoga [1.5 hrs], indoor bouldering or b-ball (depending on how my fingers feel) [2-3 hrs]

Keeps me busy ;-).
