Den-O 09-10

I'm not sure if anyone still wants to read my meta, so this is...probably the last time I'll post it here because, yeah, don't want to clog people's f-lists with junk nobody wants to read. o/ (Yeah, I started re-watching it again after a long while because I couldn't get past the introductory episodes. They aren't really plot-related orz)

Let me start off by saying that Kin-chan may very well be my favourite Imagin. Deneb comes a very close second and sometimes depending on the episode he may actually take precendence over Kin-chan as my favourite Imagin (mostly because later on Kin-chan gets shafted something fierce along with Ura and Ryuuta due to time constraints), but in the early episodes I adored Kin-chan to pieces and this arc just...really reminded me why I loved this character. He may be clumsy and break things all over the place but he has a good heart, if not a very good head. (Or maybe I'm just horribly biased, because his character archetype is totally up my alley.)

At any rate. I didn't notice that Hana-san actually disappeared in the previous arc, so when she returned it was a little jarring. I kind of like her rapid outfit changes throughout this arc though, Shiratori Yuriko is really such a pretty lady and it's a shame that she couldn't get used to the hectic schedule that is Japan TV. Still, besides introducing Kin-chan, this arc is really focused on fleshing out her character, which, I guess after eight episodes, needed a bit of developing.

It's really a bit cruel of the show to tease you about Hana's beginnings and they keep having interruptions happen (like the scene when Ryoutarou asks Hana what her family is like and Miura suddenly pops in and interrupts). This arc also features the second time they push the Hana/Ryoutarou angle, which puzzles me because it would seem that the screen-writers hadn't intended for the ending to turn out the way it eventually did, and either way, the Hana/Ryoutarou angle is just really weird to me now. (Even if I did ship it initially.)

There's just something different about the way Kenta Uchino (Honjo's actor) plays Kintaros and the way Sato Takeru plays Kintaros though. In this arc, I get a very clear picture of Kintaros being this huge overly enthusiastic kid with a big heart (especially in the scene where he sulks after being told that his ultimate karate was in fact, NOT karate) whereas in the upcoming arc, Kintaros comes off a little more as an overly enthusiastic adult with a big heart. (There is a difference! I could feel it.)

I also kind of get why the J-fen ship KinxHana. For one, Kin-chan is the first Imagin to actually change her mind (or at least, cause her to start re-examing her stand), and he also basically forces her to let slip her background and purpose for chasing Imagins. I really liked how Kin-chan was actually quite gentle in reminding her that she hates them, and there's really no reason why she should be concerned over his impending doom, even if Kin-chan had expressed confusion earlier. And it was really hilarious how Hana chose to show her mixed emotions over the entire issue by constantly punching Kin-chan's decaying form. I also burst out laughing when Kin-chan tried to hit on Hana: "Your scream of love made me cry." lolololol oh Kin-chan.

I do wonder if the reason why Hana couldn't be Den-O (besides the fact that the show will explode due to awesomeness, and that it would be hilarious and frightening trying to see Momo!Hana, much less the rest of the imagins) was because she didn't have any time to belong to. Of course, on the verso you have Yuuto, who is steadily erasing his own time/existence via Zeronos, and it kind of...actually niggles me now, that maybe the reason why Zeronos demands memories is because it comes from a destroyed future which no one remembered, assuming, of course, that Zeronos comes as a set with the Zeroliner.

Some things that bothered me though: I know that the Imagin of the week is the Rhino Imagin, but I don't believe rhinos can, you know, swim. And he reminds me more of a knight than a rhino. Also, Urataros, I know you're classed as a womanizer and all, but some of the things you do, including hitting on a guy, is really disconcerting.

This arc also had my most favourite shot of Kin-chan EVER. I don't care if it's completely utterly random that they stuffed Sato Takeru into the signature yellow kimono and just had him walk across a wooden bridge towards nowhere and say really random things, it totally stole my heart.
