Obama in Georgia

Oct 14, 2008 22:10

According to reporting on Politico.com, 499,582 votes for president have already been cast in Georgia, 37% of which were cast by African-Americans.

Assuming a voting pattern in Georgia given by pollsters at Fivethirtyeight.com, where African-Americans vote 95%-5% in favor of Obama and nonblacks (white, hispanic, and asian) vote 70%-30% in favor of McCain, this means the results in Georgia are currently:

McCain: 229,558
Obama: 270,024

Obama is currently ahead in Georgia.

Unfortunately, unless blacks continue to make up that level of the overall vote in the state or if Obama performs under 30% in nonblack vote, it's likely that Georgia will end up in McCain's column.

But here's to hoping!
