Good and Bad

Whelp, this morning the pastry chef called me (about the job I spoke about in my previous post). She'd like me to come in tomorrow morning to fill out some final paper work and then begin training at midnight. So that pretty much means that I got the job. However, she also informed me that this is a VERY part-time job...meaning maybe working 2-3 nights a week ( up to 4 within a month or so with the holidays and all). I was originally being hired for a full-time/and sometimes part-time job. She had told me that she had two spots open.

Well this morning she had told me what had happened about all that and said she hired one guy and then the other person was going to be me (because I had already taken the drug test and passed) but then some guy who already worked there decided that he wanted to be a baker too...so the second spot went to him. Since he's already working there on day-side, she doesn't want to schedule him every night for the graveyard baking position.

So that's where I come in. I'm pretty much just working nights that he can't work. I'm pretty much on-call. I'm not even sure that i'll have a set schedule or if I'll even know beforehand what nights I'll work.  They pay is 10 to start which is cool...but I'll probably only pull in like 8-10 hours a week which is a kick in the nuts. I'm pretty much working there for free and they're paying my bus fare for me to get there. I don't want to let this job go however because I'll need the experience so I can be able to get more baking jobs.

This means I'll need to get a second part-time job to make up for the lack of income. But what will make this difficult to do is that I'm not sure I'll know in advance when I'll be baking at night...so some days I'll be working at night and during the day with a few hours of rest. Buh....I'm trying to find the silver lining in all this....and I guess that I'd have to say that it's the fact I'm gaining much needed professional baking experience, and also that it's a start (job wise).
