“It’s more fun this way.”

LET’S CONSPIRE TO IGNITE
Keegan MacIntyre & Irina Bianchi & Connor Hall
prompt: starlight by muse

It’s a simple game that they have decided to play but at the end of the day those usually end up being the most entertaining. Light-hearted insults are thrown around and the laughter is easy and open, flowing freely and all too eagerly from smiling mouths. The largest and oldest of the three, Keegan sits at one side of the square table with the two squabbling younger wolves, one to either side of him, their barbs are becoming more and more fierce and the lone female at the table has an increasingly feral wave in her already untameable hair. She snarls and flashes her wolfen eyes at Connor and then throws her cards on the table with a huff.

“You’re cheating,” she growls unhappily and Keegan doesn’t even bother trying to conceal a smirk as Connor’s bottom jaw drops in a poor attempt at indignation.

“I resent the implication,” he returns almost haughtily, shaking his head in what Keegan takes for utter disbelief. Connor begins scooping up the cards to deal them again. “Besides,” he begins, “I’d really love to know how you think anyone could be cheating at Snap.”

Keegan can’t help but laugh at that but he sobers quickly enough, leaning back in his chair, turning his gaze towards Irina. She’s narrowing her eyes and then a smile that’s all too sweet touches her face. “I’m not the one who noticed you were cheating.” She winks at Connor with another feral flash in her gaze. When Connor’s brow furrows in confusion she looks to Keegan, prompting the other male to do the same.

Irina is all too good at reading body language, especially in those she has known for a long time. She is one of those within the pack most in tune with their animal side and the ways in which she can put that into play are surprising at times. Keegan smiles crookedly. “How long have you known?”

“About ten minutes,” she returns.

“That long?” Keegan leans forward on the table, propping his elbows on the edge of the table. “I’m amazed you waited until now to confront him.” Nothing was said of the fact that despite being the one to notice the cheating in the first place Keegan had said nothing of it himself.

She shrugs, one of the straps of her casual sundress slipping from her shoulder. She catches it and slides it back into place. “It’s more fun this way.”

“More fun?” Connor looks from one to the other. “What is that supposed to mean?”

“You’ve been cheating for more than ten minutes,” Irina reminds him. “Now I feel justified in doing this.” With that she’s up and out of her chair and bolting around the small table towards Connor.

With a choked exclamation of alarm Connor spins himself around out of his chair and makes a rapid dash for the open door leading out into the lobby. His cries of innocence and Irina’s loud shouts of accusation echo long after they have vanished from sight.
