Stuff and Things

Soon I'm going to post the Super Sexy Scary 2010 sign ups. We're going to do this one a bit differently, and I hope it works out. Also, I collected the links for the Spring Fling 2010 and posted them in the sidebar. (Way to go, guys! We had relatively few dropouts, and I know that was due to RL issues and not lack of interest ( Read more... )

I know I would love to have fanning of my work, definitely, but I'm just a little leery since in the big bang we only had four artists total and as I'm going in and commenting on them myself right now... I'm noticing there's not a lot of feedback for the artists. o.o So the return for ratio for the artists is a little, um, skewed. The writers definitely love them to bits, but otherwise I'm not sure how much encouragement they get. We need an "artist appreciation corner". (And I'm not just saying it for me, because Carol does a *LOT* of work and covers for us, and the fanmixes and hand-art take time... and I don't see *any* comments on the fanmixes, which is really sad since I know how much time they take picking out just everything right.)

Lists/Comms... same thing to me, lol. I just use the older term reflexively. Though there are still a couple of Clex MLs out there that need more posts.

Let's see, comms:
gotclex, lex_minions, old_school_clex, smallville, sv_fanfic, sv_slash, - those are all the ones I have posting access to. Then there's also absolut_lex, sv_ledger, and fanon_fridays. ... ?

Hm. That's a good point. I don't remember anyone posting their art on their journals afterward, as people tend to do for fic, so they're really not getting any comments.

Yeah, people don't comment on fanmixes, unfortunately, unless they want to comment on something they're taking. I thought maybe if the art/accompanying piece were in a separate post, people might be more inclined to comment on art (but still, probably not fanmixes very much).

I kind of wandered away from this reply for ten minutes and forgot about it. I think this is a sign I need coffee. It's been a long Friday/Saturday. They sort of merged into one mutant day.

Anyway… I think also the mods could possibly do more to encourage people to comment on the entries of both art AND fic. If we're able to pull this off.

There's also sv_renaissance?

I have access to absolut_lex and fanon_fridays, and I could post on sv_mpreg too, just for giggles. It doesn't get a lot of posts. sv_ledger should pick it up for advertisement as well once they see it somewhere. It's kind of what they do.

I think the problem with poor fanmixes is 1) takes time to download the music 2) particularly when they're not in zips 3) music tastes differ even more than writing tastes. Mostly, it's the time to download and listen. If we're not already familiar with most of the music used, we don't really *know* how to comment on them. Gotta admit, I skip pretty much any fanmix that links the songs separately or worse, to youtube videos. I have to really want to know in order to go to all that work for them. The zip files are a lot easier and I can just play them immediately to listen to while I'm doing other things on the computer.

Caaaaffffiiiineee.... {zombies for it} Sorry your Fri/Sat has been such a mutant. Bad on Fri the 13th, worse on Sat the 14th?

{Wanders off to look at sv_renaissance} Small but select group. ^^ Should be a good place. And Holiday is a good time for Mpreg too. ;D

I don't really get comments on fanmixes that aren't from my bff, who comments on everything if she's online. So yeah, I get that. I DO zip files now and retag the song info. It's easier to zip and upload one ginormous file.

My AC went out yesterday afternoon. It was roughly 100 degrees… inside. I got it back sometime this morning, but it's still not killing all the heat. Hopefully, it'll get better in the evening.

I um, {cough} still have to download your last two. ^^;;; So, um, yeah, fanmixes... o.o

Ouch. That's hot. And humid too, I suppose? That's worse. At least our heat is dry heat. We've been having an unusually mild summer so far {knock on wood}. Hope your evening is better! (And the next day too.)

No one is obligated to download them. I'd just like someone to enjoy basically what motivates me to get down to writin'.

It's gotten down to 80. I'm really excited about that. It gets nasty humid.

Well, it turns out I *had* downloaded it earlier... the problem is macs and windows zip files aren't talking to each other anymore and I can't just unzip mac zips anymore with a simple "extract all". I've run into this problem with some other mix sets lately too. Finally found a way around it -- don't know what it actually does for compression, but I can just get directly into the zip folder where the music is, copy the music out and then paste it into my music folders. So far doesn't seem to be any sound loss by doing it that way. edit - oh, and also about half the songs are m4as, which will only play on itunes.

But I've got it all out now, and will go comment on the real post. :)

Hm. I'll have to think about that. I wonder why they're not working with each other. Other than the companies being competitive and stupid.

I dunno what to do about m4as. Those I get from iTunes when I buy them. :/

{growls at the companies} I know they both want a monopoly... but honestly, anti-monopoly laws forbid that anyhow, so what's wrong with letting people have things they can use anywhere? o.o

I've got iTunes, I just have to switch what I was playing on. I have to admit that I've got to get a conversion software myself for all my .wma files. When I made my last mix, I realized I have a lot of my files in that, which macs won't play. {sigh} Problems with songs! Not that we're supposed to be sharing anyhow, but... ^^;

If they have VLC, they can play them, but I don't usually keep those files cause I cannot make playlists or vid with them. I could start looking for a converter. The converter for avis, though, is crappy.
