"Clark Kent and Lex Luthor. I like the sound of that."

Lex knew that something was wrong with Clark. He left the castle and headed straight for the Kent farm.

...

"Excuse me. Mr. Kent."

"Uh, Lex, this is really not a very good time."

"I understand you and Clark have been having some problems."

"Yeah, look, I don't want to be rude, but I'd prefer it if you'd stay out of my family's problems."

"Believe me, Mr. Kent, I'm not trying to pry, but Clark's my friend. I'd hate to see his relationship with you fall apart."

"I appreciate your concern, but Clark and I can work this out." Jonathan walked up to Lex, looking not so civil anymore. He actually growled, "I want you to go. In fact, why don't you stay gone?"

...

"What took you so long?" Clark asked when Lex returned.

Lex let Clark approach him and looked up into his beautiful face, his green eyes. "Nothing I should have bothered with, as it turns out. Ready to go?"

Clark beamed. It wasn't exactly his signature smile, but it was still gorgeous, and Lex would take it. "Ready!"

...

As he drove them to Metropolis in the red Ferrari that Clark had picked, Lex knew that eventually, whatever Clark had would wear off, leaving the much less daring Clark that he knew.

When that happened, Lex would be there to help Clark find himself again, and to go back home, if only just to visit his parents.

Meanwhile, Clark was lost. But he wouldn't be alone.

Hah. Take *that* Mr. Kent! Love that version, I really do. I try hard not to hate the Kents in the show, but the show writes them so mean... With that approach, Lex's going back to Clark is wonderful. I like his decision - and his trust that Clark would come back to him eventually too. Great little ficlet. ^_^

Very nice twist on that episode. Lovely interpretation, particularly, Meanwhile, Clark was lost.

Much better coda to Red! Because even when Clark's back to himself, he's still going to want Lex.

Maybe I'm reading too deeply - I want to like this. But part of me is sad too, because if Clark is altered, does that also change his choice?

While in red K, clark isn't really altered, he's just FREE of moral compasses to do/take what he wants, according to Clark himself. So he's always wanted Lex, and now he's free to say it and act on it.

I imagine than when he comes down from the red K by taking off the ring, he'll be embarrassed by what he's done, but will have hopefully grown up enough to own up to his feelings and stick by Lex (who stuck by him when he needed it) when they come back to SV. What do you think? Better?

Meanwhile, Clark was lost. But he wouldn't be alone.

Loved that line, just fantastic. I loved how Lex tried to do the right thing, but Mr Kent's attitude (once again) pushed him away.

All I can say is take that Mr Kent.

No kidding. The Kents really pushed their son away so much during the show. I figured that for once, he should just go and be happy with his Lex.

:)
