"It's the deal for getting Cat Grant off your back," the PA said. Lex stared at her, but the woman barely flinched. If she didn't work out in his office, he could still find use for her elsewhere, managing one of his more annoying Directors.

"Explain," he requested, pausing in his acquisition of a new science team -- he loved when big labs lost funding, because they didn't always keep the best people when they were forced to downsize -- to give the PA his full attention.

"I simply explained to Mr. White that after her disasterous appearance at last weekend's gala, her presence would be inadvisable. However, in understanding that the Planet desired representation, a compromise was reached. One reporter as a company guest, chosen at our discretion

Clark closed his eyes and brought the focus of his hearing down to the heartbeat of the driver, because he couldn't dwell on that history. Not when he would be facing the now-version of his then-friend

Perfect ending! I absolutely love Lex's line about missing Clark, how smoothly (typical Lex) he handled everything, and Lois' squawk and imagined expression at the ending! Well done! :-)

Lex is so smooth! I love how well you've illustrated that, here. I do like how they ended up, too. I like how Clark is quite aware he should stay out of the way of a dust-up between Lex and Lois. Smart man, even if he is clueless about other things. :)

"Isn't it obvious, Clark? Come on. You were bad enough when you were tripping all over yourself and making googly eyes because of Lana Lang. You didn't think I'd notice?"

"Notice what?"

"The way you stare at Lex. The way you watch him. The way you want him."

"I don't -- "

"The way you get all dreamy-eyed whenever anybody mentions he's actually done something good for a change."

"That's enough, Chloe!"

"Yeah. Right. And as for you, Luthor -- "

"Do not fret, Miss Sullivan. I will not look a gift horse in the mouth, and we Luthors always recognize a golden opportunity when we are presented with one. I am entirely devoted to Mister Kent tonight." And every night.

"You better be, because if you break his heart, no amount of money's going to keep you safe from the butt whupping I'll give you."

"Chloe!"

"Rest assured, Miss Sullivan, that ever hurting our dear, shared friend is the last thing I wish to do."

"Good. It better be. Now let's go see this movie."

Hah. Awesome. Lex is quick to go along. Clark should have known that arguing would get him nowhere; Chloe is way more persistent than Clark.

All dialogue fics are such fun, and this one is no exception. I enjoyed the outraged tone in Clark's voice, the chastizing tone of Chloe's, and the reassuring smugness of Lex's (although that last one might have ben me projecting...:))

Cool. I had originally thought of trying to connect my stories, but had the idea too late. So, I really like how you are doing this. Loved Lex with his comic book, and Clark struggling with his school work.
