Finally, after a few months -- and a lot of calls on the space scanner -- the first being gives up on trying to get the official authorities for help and assistance -- mostly because nobody seems willing to even take its calls, having condemned it for stopping for directions and then taking over a planet without even a 'how do you do'.
It starts calling up unlisted planets instead, on the theory that, it's newly-accidentally-conquered planet being an unlisted planet too, somebody on a different unlisted planet might actually respond and understand the logic behind this whole sort of mess. And maybe even be willing to talk to it.
For some reason, though, the second alien being thinks this is also a horrible idea, and whenever the first alien being complains about how it doesn't want to be anybody's alien dictator-overlord, the second alien being gives it a weird look, and then sighs heavily.
So the first alien being cold-calls a bunch of planets, and ends up having to hang up a few times really weirded out, until it finally calls up a planet that's technically in the database, but doesn't really have any information associated with it other than 'belonging to Kryptonians', who aren't around anymore, anyway.
It tries it out anyway, despite the second being's wet-blanketing of the idea, and gets back a weird sort of 'ping'.
It tries to establish communications by just about every method it can think of, but it can't figure out what it's getting back, even though it looks something like a repeating complex signal.
Stumped, the first being has no idea what to do with this, but it tells the second being about it, and the second being likes puzzles. So, after a bit time spent on some significant back-and-forth and data exchange -- it does take awhile -- they finally get a fuzzy, laggy signal up that allows for audio and video communications on both ends.
The being on the other end of their signal has a bulb-like head with odd-colored eyes, but no antennae and no tentacles. It does have appendages which look like legs a bit, only skinnier, and little fringe-y things at the end of those that it can move.
It says 'Hello,' in Interlac, and asks why they're calling his planet.
The first being explains that he's conquered a planet, and needs some help with it.
'Really,' says the antennaeless alien. 'Why did you conquer it if you're having trouble keeping it? And why should I or my planet help you?'
The first being explains that it's not that it's having trouble keeping it, exactly -- it's problem is that it can't seem to give it away to anybody else. Nobody else on the planet will take it away from him; it's tried.
The antennaeless alien blinks at it, and asks if it wants him to take over for it. He talks more slowly when saying this for some reason.
The first alien being blinks, and pulls at an antennae a bit. It admits that it doesn't know him all that well, and that that wasn't why it was calling random planets, exactly. It tries to explain that it doesn't know how to run a dictatorship properly as an alien overlord.
The antenaeless alien asks why it conquered it then.
The first being tells him that it was an accident.
The antennaeless alien looks somewhat skeptical, but when the first being starts explaining, just feeling relieved that it's even got a chance to do that with someone else, finally, he listens.
The first being actually gets through the entire explanation with him, and by the end it's feeling rather hopeful as it looks on at him through the comm channel.
The antennaeless alien sits for awhile, seeming to process the information related to him.
And then he asks, 'What sort of help do you need?'
(Things go downhill from there ;)

I have to say, while I liked my Christmas story, I think I like this one even better. That poor alien!
