We took metherion to a psychiatrist at eight when he told us after a worse day than usual, sobbing, that he wanted to die. I was sobbing when I filled out the paperwork, which included photocopying his informal "report cards" from preschool. which were full of praise for his exuberance. Where had that happy little boy gone?
He was diagnosed with severe depression and ADHD, and referred to a local specialist, a psychologist who lived with ADHD himself, who met with metherion individually and also placed him in a therapy group run from his office.
All the different experts, and meds, and treatments, were helpful to our son, but what helped us the most was meeting the other parents and kids in his therapy group.
