t had been one week since Miss Elizabeth Bennet had arrived in Fandom; quite accidentally, via a stage-coach that found its way to Maryland while en route to Fandom.
She had been given lodging and spending-money, thanks to the kindness of Lady Atreides, who she must remember not to call by her proper title, and
Mrs. Winchester had been good enough to tell her where and when she was. She'd gone to a
church service, though one unlike anything she'd experienced in her past. She had seen
Lady Ghanima once more in town, where she had met
many kind gentlemen at tea; one of whom had let her this room, one of whom had known The Holy Son, and one of whom had informed her that she was, in fact, already hired on as a teacher.
Teaching was not entirely what she might have expected, but the students seemed eager to learn, as was she. And her
teaching ... buddy? (that was such an odd phrase, Eliza felt) might prove helpful after all. At the very least, some of her students might, as well.
She had tea (proper tea) once more, thanks to the
assertive young girl at the general store; Eliza sipped it gratefully and started yet another letter to Jane. Two to her aunt and uncle Gardiner, thus far, one to her Father, and this would be Jane's fourth. There had been no reply yet, but it would not do to lose hope. Perhaps letters took some time to cross the centuries.
Dear Jane ...
