I've been having very odd dreams lately. Last night I dreamt that I had taken a job as a teacher, and it was the custom for teachers where I was living to fill in for policemen every now and then. "To see the police in your dream, indicates some failure to perform or to honor obligations and commitments. The police also symbolize structure, rules, and control. A more direct interpretation of seeing the police in your dream forewarns that you should avoid reckless behavior.

It's interesting that a criminal shot you, then nurtured you back to health (or at least away from death). To me this seems to indicate (if we consider the morality bit above to be true) that there are people in your life who are changing your morals, changing the way you approach life. It's violent and abrupt - being shot in the chest generally implies a swift death.
It could also be out of fear that you're not able to fulfill your obligations. Coming back to life could indicate a kind of rebirth. Perhaps this relates to your thoughts about majors recently? It's even possible that the word major came into play, your mind altering it from a school setting (teacher) to the synonym in a military sense, and from there to police, since the military and police are so closely connected as far as what kind of group they are (ie: the roll they fulfill, especially the military in the news over the past months, "policing" the middle east and whatnot).
"To see your chest in your dream, signifies confidence, conquest and vitality. Alternatively, it represents feelings of being overwhelmed and being dangerously confronted by something. Consider also if the dream is telling you that there is something that you need to 'get off your chest'."
Overwhelmed by something may fit as well.
That's my two cents. Let me know if it made sense and/or helped.
