Catbird’s Harry Potter thoughts…

So, I had been hoping to re-read the entire series and do a careful close reading, looking for foreshadowing and trying to make as many predictions as possible. Sadly, I didn’t have time to do that, so when I finally go and get my copy of Book 7 on Sunday I’ll be reading it without a fresh memory of the series as a whole.

That said, there are a few things I’d like to express before I get the last book in my burning hands.

1) I really don’t want the secret to Voldemort’s downfall to be “the power of love.” But I know that it will be.
2) I don’t want Severus to throw himself in front of some deadly curse to save Harry, thus enabling The-Boy-Who-Lived to defeat Voldemort. Yet, as much as I don’t want it to happen, I must acknowledge it as a strong possibility, which sucks since I think Snape’s years as a spy and double agent for Dumbledore should be enough attonement for his time as a Death Eater. He shouldn’t have to lay down his life to prove he’s repented.
3) I really want Harry to die and, although I think it’s pretty likely he will, I have a feeling he might not stay dead. *cough, Aslan, Christ, cough*
4) I very much doubt that both Harry and Snape will die and if one of them is going to go, you know who I’m rooting for.
5) I think RAB is Regulus Black.
6) I think that Snape will figure out a way to send Harry & Co. clues about the remaining Horcruxes, yet without blowing his cover with the Death Eaters and without them figuring it out.
7) If the novel ends with Harry (he’s so much like James! Those glasses! That messy hair!) marrying Ginny (she’s so much like Lily! So fiesty! So redheaded!) I am going to puke.

Overall, there is so much I have loved about this series, like, you know, Snape, Snape, James Potter being an bullying prick, Snape, cool monsters, Snape . . . and yet there’s so much that I can’t stand and has driven me nuts like, you know, Harry being stupid, Quidditch, cutsie talking everything, Unbreakable Vows not making sense, Veritaserum not making sense, the internal logic of the world collapsing . . . .

And yet….

I’ll be sad when it’s over. Especially if Book 7 stinks as much as Book 6 did.

*whimper* I hope it’s good. . . .

(Send me spoilers and I will kill you.)

harry potter, snape
