Best Job Ever

May 14, 2007 21:41

I currently have the best temp job EVER and if I could (a) ensure that it stayed like this and (b) defer grad school for a year, I would. And I’d dedicate my first novel to this Illustrious Firm.

I am currently being paid over double minimum wage to do, essentially, nothing. I’m a receptionist on a floor that gets next to no calls (20 in an 8 hour day?), few visitors (2-10) and I have essentially no responsibilities (stock fridge once a week and tidy kitchen). My colleagues are extremely nice (and occasionally flirty) and are perpetually apologizing that my job is so boring while encouraging me to surf the web and bring a book to alleviate said boredom.

Crazy, I know.

So, I’ve gotten a decent amount of creative writing done and am now fairly well up-to-date on current events, both essential and non-essential. I’m going to share interesting New York Times articles with you rather often, I’m guessing, so here we go! Enjoy and do please feel free to comment.
