On the flight from my hometown of Cleveland, where Faith, Connor and this Justin vampire, who was good, had saved me…going to San Francisco, where apparently, we were now based, I had a lot of questions.
I had been sitting on the end of an aisle with Justin next to me and Faith taking the window. I had no doubts about trusting this Justin, but apparently Faith did, as she had so many questions for him, and was probing him, that I wasn’t going to get the chance to find out the things about being a vampire slayer that I wanted to know. I had already heard the basics and my father, a Republican Senator from Ohio, after the attack and after Justin had somehow filled all of us in on what was going on, well…my father knew of the vampire slayer and knew about the presence of demon because he sat on an intelligence sub-committee.
I knew the basics and trusted Justin, seeing what he had done, but there was more that I wanted to know. Connor had been kneeling in the aisle, a part of the conversation, and had said something strange when I asked what a souled vampire was and if they were good and how it came to be that they were souled, after Justin had explained himself a little more. Connor had said not to ask him the answers and that he might know them, but he didn’t have any recollection.
I found that weird, but not so much, because I really didn’t know any of the three that I was flying with. We were all in that situation. Connor and Faith knew each other, but apparently, Connor didn’t realize that. None of them knew me, really. Justin was new to all of us, although apparently, he had been dreaming about Faith, somehow, for more then a week, and really, Faith was the only one that knew any of us from before, and that would be Connor.
A stewardess made Connor take his seat and not wanting him to be alone, especially since he had that boyishly cute thing going for him, I sat next to him, taking the window seat, wanting to know why he didn’t have his memory and wanting him to get to know me a little more. Suddenly, he started talking about not trusting Justin, but he did it in a friendly, cautious way, even though Justin heard him and gave him the hands lowering, take it easy, everything is fine, motion.
“See, you can trust Justin, Connor. Now, I’d say it’s time for you and me to get to know each other a little bit. What did you mean when you said something about not remembering things that you should know?”
I studied him and his boyish quality seemed to fade. Suddenly, he developed almost an evil look on his face.
“Connor, what’s wrong?”
