Hi Rita,
Thanks for writing in. Yes, EricZombie and I led two walks....one at 7:30 or so and one at about 8:00pm. I had a megaphone and was making announcements. Sorry you missed us.
I had no intention of spear heading our regular zombie antics with thousands of people following us...especially with people like you who aren't prepared to participate in the gorilla theater aspect and just want to take pictures. Don't got me wrong, zombies love pictures...
It's funny to me that people in mass expect to be corralled. I'm afraid that unfortunately, many whom might not know how to be responsible for themselves and might want to sue some Fremonster for making them trip on the sidewalk and fall into a speeding vehicle. That's the reality of our culture.
There was simply too many people to bring into businesses and seriously clogg traffic. We already super bloodied up local storefront windows and trampled plantings.
Zombie Walk really only works with about 300 people who have taken the time to do their makeup and willingness to act like a zombies and photographers who risk themselves as VICTIMS! People willing to be hunted were missing from this years walk.
Next time it will be smaller, less publicized and I will personally turn a supersoaker full of my tastiest blood mixture on spectators. You're a victim or Zombie, or a photographer with real equipment..... That's how I'd like it anyways.
The July 3rd walk was a world's record attempt. Of course you did not have to register! It was a free event with a $5.00 donation for the movie and space. If it had all the production qualities you were craving...it would have been a more expensive ticket. Fremont Outdoor Movies did not have the budget to really give a "concert type show". They were really stressed they might not make the $7,000 + they already sank into it. It was a community event that was what people make of it.
I'm glad you suffered the line. You would have not contributed to our zombie tally if you failed to do that. There's alot to think about concerning social dynamics and public law when considering bringing a horrible fantasy into reality. If you really want to get involved...read the other sections of this journal I've kept since our first ZW in 2003.
