I recently watched a documentary on logoonline.com called Southern Comfort. This film and the people featured within touched me deeply. Some of you may have seen this already, but for those who havent, please do. Its available for free here:
http://www.logoonline.com/shows/dyn/southern_comfort/videos.jhtml from the website: "Robert Eads, a transgender man, is dying of ovarian cancer. This documentary follows his struggle with the disease as he reveals traumatic events as well as stories of personal triumph. Highlighted are the often poor medical attention transgender people receive and the love expressed between family members faced with terminal illness. Part of Logo's Real Momentum documentary series."

Robert Eads passed away in 1999, so yes, it is a bit dated and yes, some progress has been made. In my opinion, however, its not enough. Until all people have the same rights, it will never be enough. Mr. Eads could still be alive had he not been turned away by medical professionals after his diagnoses. It makes me physically ill and sick at heart that transgendered people are still facing such hurdles.
It isnt easy viewing, its sad and intense, but it is also at times funny and sweet. I encourage you to watch this film and to please become actively involved in GLBT causes if you are not already.
Thanks for reading. :)
