Whew what a day!

First thing this morning I took 12 Girl Scouts (ages 11-13) to Duke City Fencing for a Fencing workshop. WOW! These folks are awesome. I've got to hand it to the instructor & her helpers, they ROCKED. If you'd have told me in 2 hrs. you'd have my girls not only suited up, but with swords in-hand stabbing at each other - I'd have laughed in your face. How very very wrong I was. Not only that but I do believe that my youngest Sprog has discovered her new passion.

My girls often get criticized for not being more "athletic" or even participating in organized sports. It's not that I don't want them to be involved - I just refuse to force them to be a part of a sport/organization/etc... that they care nothing about. However, I have tried to introduce them (through G.S.) to various types of activities and such, in the hopes that they might find something (games, archery, self-defense, etc...) that strikes their fancy. That's how my oldest Sprog discovered not only does she really like archery (with a long-bow, not compound thankyouverymuch), but she has a natural talent for it.

So it didn't really surprise me after the workshop when my youngest begged me to let her take up fencing. We called the grandparents and talked it over with them and have decided that instead of "fluffy" birthday presents from now on, we would all pitch in and invest in lessons for each girl in the passion of their choice. They were thrilled, and so were we! I just think it's very interesting that they have both chosen anachronistic sports :) Gee, who would have guessed *wink*
