Non-spontaneous Combustion

I was working with bacteria in lab today, and had turned on the bunson burner to flame sterilize things. Now, if you can remember back to high school chem, bunsen burners glow with a very faint blue flame, which is difficult to see sometimes. It was ten minutes before I wanted to leave, and I was rushing through a bunch of cultures I needed to set up for tomorrow so I could get out of work on time. Stupidly, I had not taken the time to set up well, so my pipette tip trash can was on the side of the burner I was not working on. Forgetting that the flame was on and not seeing the faint blue light, I reached across it and stuck my sweater covered arm right through the top of the flame. Luckily, I was watching my arm and saw an orange flare wrap itself around my arm, so I noticed right away and pulled it out before my sweater caught fire. Unfortunately, my sleeve was singed brown all over, and smells like burning plastic. I'm not sure if the smell will wash out.

In other news, I have been busy with work, and prepping to move. Chris and I got a new apartment in Newton, .7 miles from the T and .8 from the Pike. It's a two bedroom, top floor, dhas a dishwasher, and is nicerand more convenient then the current one. It cuts 20 minutes off my commute time, and it is away from the terrible Goat Lady (see previous entry for details) . We get to move in on Wednesday, and we won't need to be out of our current place till the 15th, so we have cleaning time. I can't wait to finally be out from under the Wicked Witch of the Eastern Block.

Weekend was good, met with Kitty and her house for pumpkin carving on Saturday. Our pumpkin actually turned out rather well, I am very proud of it. (I may take a picture and post it later, if I can figure out how to do that) After that, we went to a party held by one of Chris' coworkers. It was fun, albeight far away, with some amazing conversations. Sunday, Chris and I picked up my brother Dave in the attempt to drive out a corn maze in Sterling (http://www.davisfarmland.com/megamaze/index.htm) Unfortunately, we got there to find that they were closed down due to the storm the day before, so the afternoon was instead spent driving around in the foliage and listening to music, eating Indian food and watching a movie.

I'll be heading out to Ceremony tonight and Haven tomorrow, hope I'll see people there.
