Frozen Explosion!

Yes, I am sewing an actual costume! I have a 15-day window for Isa's costumed piano recital! My living room is a total explosion of sequins, crystals, and fabric glitter and I'm a nervous wreck because I'm afraid I won't be able to complete the project on time. I am going for a high-quality recognizable Elsa, rather than attempt to replicate exactly the details of the movie dress. Time is short - compromise is a must!

I ordered 4 styles of Cartwright's 7mm square sequins. 3200 sequins total...and some Swarovski crystals for fun.

I ordered white silk crepe for the bodice and skirt and white silk chiffon for the cape. All from Dharma Trading. Dyeing to commence today with mixtures of aquamarine, teal, and denim blue RIT dyes.

I started cutting my snowflake appliques last night out of white tulle (the tulle is from a friend's wedding gown - recycle, right?). After they are cut, I'm spraying them with sparkle fabric paint and giving them a good coating of fabric glitter. I'm not very happy with the outcome. The fabric paint was a waste of money. There is almost no sparkle. I'm also not thrilled with my snowflake cutting ability. Oh well, I can replace them later!

(The snowflakes are on my sleeve fabric rather than the cape fabric.  I had to compromise on the color of sleeve fabric because I couldn't find a lighter color in a fabric that streched.  I want a nice, snug fit on the sleeves so opted not to use the silk chiffon).

Isa was horrified at the mock-up, because I used an old set of sheets. Actually, though, I was very impressed because it fit perfectly with no adjustments! I only mocked the skirt and bodice. I still need to do sleeves (eew) and at least a partial cape.
