If I can deal with it, you can

Okay, more housekeeping.

The new layout: For those of you just joining us, the goal was to make the layout, particularly the comment posting boxes, more accessible to anyone with visual impairment. I threw "November Day" up here just to have something clean and legible for the Oscar liveblog, but... now I actually like it. I went through every ( Read more... )

Yeah, I think that's what's really drawn me to it. That, and the jaunty calendar. Not thrilled with the entry icon being on the far side of the screen rather than at the beginning of the text, but you can't have everything.

See, I could change these things by tweaking the entire layout in S2.

I think foresthouse has dibs on the redesign at this point, heh.

No, foresthouse can paste the code. I don't need access to your journal if that's what you're worried about.

Oh, no, I meant the artistic bits and everything. She's very excited about this.

I don't think the icon is moveable with CSS alone for this particular layout. That's why I offered to help - if she just tries to do it with CSS I suspect she's going to bust her butt for no reason. (She may yet prove me wrong, of course. CSS3 is amazing.)

The trouble is, the S2 code says "first draw the security lock, then the title, then the icon." After that, the CSS pretties it up with colors and so on, but I don't think it can change the order things are drawn in. It would be different if the layout had left all the formatting to the CSS, but LJ didn't write it that way.

All of which is a very long way of saying that I'm not trying to take this away from foresthouse, I'm trying to keep both of you from banging your head against a wall for no reason.

You might be able to move the icon in the entry with custom CSS. I've done that with other layouts (Dear Diary most often).

I'll give LJ and its clones some credit in forcing my CSS skills to evolve (the rest of the credit goes to sites with horrid layouts/tiny text/moronic commenters and the Stylish plugin for Firefox).
