Please welcome! Robin Wright in leggy black and Jeremy Renner in a tie!
Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Television Movie or Miniseries
JOHN GOODMAN / Neal Nicol - “YOU DON’T KNOW JACK” (HBO)
AL PACINO / Jack Kevorkian - “YOU DON’T KNOW JACK” (HBO)
DENNIS QUAID / Bill Clinton - “THE SPECIAL RELATIONSHIP” (HBO)
ÉDGAR RAMÍREZ / Ilich Ramírez Sánchez, aka ‘Carlos’ - “CARLOS” (Sundance Channel)
PATRICK STEWART / Macbeth - “MACBETH (GREAT PERFORMANCES)” (Thirteen/PBS)
Wait, what? Dennis Quaid played Bill Clinton? Fairly creditably, it looks like? That is... really something. Al Pacino, however, wins. Robin Wright is happy to accept on his absent behalf.
Ladies and gentlemen! Armie Hammer, Andrew Garfield, Jesse Eisenberg and Justin Timberlake! Holy crap, Armie Hammer is like a foot taller than everyone else on that stage. He's at least a foot and a half taller than Eisenberg. (Social Network clip, obvs.)
Please welcome! Rosario Dawson, who stares placidly at the teleprompter for a solid thirty seconds, and Josh Duhamel, who is a little shaken by this!
Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Movie or Miniseries
CLAIRE DANES / Temple Grandin - “TEMPLE GRANDIN” (HBO)
CATHERINE O’HARA / Aunt Ann - “TEMPLE GRANDIN” (HBO)
JULIA ORMOND / Eustacia Grandin - “TEMPLE GRANDIN” (HBO)
WINONA RYDER / Lois Wilson - “WHEN LOVE IS NOT ENOUGH: THE LOIS WILSON STORY” (CBS)
SUSAN SARANDON / Janet Good - “YOU DON’T KNOW JACK” (HBO)
Winona Ryder's clip is horrible, and she makes a face of horror out in the audience, which made me laugh. Claire Danes wins (she also picked up the Golden Globe) while Susan Sarandon claps quietly--whoa! Beth and Jo and Marmee! That just kind of blew my mind. I like Beth's green and black dress? "These are my friends! My fellow Little Ladies!" Okay, it's not just me! Wow, Claire Danes is just spewing out a DVD commentary up there about her acting experiences. Catherine O'Hara is just out in the audience shaking her head and laughing. Wow, they are actually playing her off. "And thank you to my favorite husband, my Hugh, my love!" LADIES AND GENTLEMEN PLEASE WELCOME HILARY SWANK. It's the Annual Death March, and blessedly, they have the sound up loud enough that even though people don't hold their applause (will they ever?), you can't hear much of it. In Memoriam: Jill Clayburgh, Leslie Nielsen, Lynn Redgrave, Robert Culp, Gloria Stuart, Kevin McCarthy, John Forsythe, Anne Francis, Pernell Roberts, Harold Gould, David Nelson, Frances Reid, Larry Keith, Patricia Neal, Danny Aiello III, June Havoc, James MacArthur, Barbara Billingsley, Gary Coleman, Rue McClanahan, Zelda Rubenstein, Fred Foy, Janet MacLachlan, Fess Parker, Lena Horne (audible clapping), Peter Haskell, Peter Graves, Dixie Carter, Tom Bosley, Kathryn Grayson, Pete Postlethwaite (audible clapping and cheers), Eddie Fisher, Tony Curtis, Jean Simmons, Dennis Hopper (wow. Let's end with a Blue Velvet clip, why don't we?). Commercials, as is traditional.
