Kind of blech with the allergies today--mostly did fact-checking with the Cloverfield DVD (see linkspam below for more), and man, do I wish my sister could remember her Netflix password so I could get the '79 Dracula DVD for a day or two, and that's assuming it exists--so I'm just gonna move right on through:

I didn't read your article, but I'll respond to your point. I don't think 15 year olds should be treated the same as 5 year olds, and then suddenly move out and be grown ups at 18 which is sort of what you're implying I want. I DO think, and no article will change my mind, having been a 15 year old recently enough to remember it pretty well, that at 15 you are not a sexually mature responsible complete person. I also don't think that encouraging our children to display "maturity" by baring their skin and implying to the 50 year old men of the world "you can totally bone my supple virgin ass" is a good idea either. I think that this whole "you are becoming an adult, lets look at you with adult eyes and adult thoughts in our adults heads" trend is disgusting. We're telling our children that unchecked sexuality is the path to maturity. We're also encouraging adults to think of children in a sexual way. I think that summer jobs, increased chores, mature discussions of sexual matter, increasingly relaxed supervision with friends, exploring your sexuality by yourself and with people your own age at a personally appropriate pace...these are all good ways to let children grow up. Throwing them nude on a bed covered in silk sheets on a national magazine to make money off of old perverts is a bad message, to both the jailbait starlet and her impressionable fans. "You are an adult, you are a woman. You are meat". Bad messages all around.

Whaaaat? A happy medium between being treated like a child too long and an adult too soon? Get out of here with your earth logic! ; )
