Oh my God. The air conditioner is completely dead, and we're going to have to pay $5400 for a new one--it's already 70+ degrees in the afternoons now. I don't know how on God's green earth we're going to come up with $800 a month for this.

Also, regarding the boycott tomorrow: chopchica points out,
There's a huge amount of Russian anti-SUP sentiment out ( Read more... )

Stop it! You're being all rational and thinking and stuff.

OK, I agree with not wanting to be associated with antisemites - BUT. Good Friday is NOT associated with the Jews - Christ was crucified on PASSOVER, which isn't until April 20th this year.

I think that comment was more, "on a holy day when ideally those who recognize it try to be at least marginally better people".

Well, as I replied above (below?), it was more that I particularly didn't want to be associated as a Christian with antisemites on a Christian holiday, since there is, by definition, some overlap of the two groups (although obviously you could be Muslim, or anything else, instead of Christian and be antisemitic).

Well, I was rather making the opposite point--it's associated with Christians, and I didn't want to associate a Christian holiday with antisemites.

I wasn't going make a point of boycotting, because I don't post every day anyway... but now I will make a point of posting something, because I will not stand with anti-semites on anything.

A compromise may be to definitely post something along the lines of explaining what changes we'd like to see, and that our problem with SUP's customer service policies has nothing to do with antisemitism.

That's a good idea, I might do that. Thanks.

Though in any case, I'm not sure there is much point in the boycott, as it does seem like an improved dialogue has already been opened up as a result of people's complaints. I'm concerned a boycott might look a little like a childish tantrum, and take things back a step.

Edited because of a stupid typo...

I don't see any validity in the charge that anti-Semitism has anything to do with this matter. Sounds to me like another attempt to spin, wiggle and red-herring a way out of having to apologize for disrespectful policies and offensive statements.

Here's my post on the matter, newly edited today, with links to the pertinent information. I don't care what religion Nossik may be - he calls people with basic accounts "freeloaders" and people who contact companies to protest their policies "idiots"; he also states that customers who boycott the company are trying to "blackmail" it. He hasn't apologized for ANY of the very objectionable things he's said; he's basically just boasted that he's so great on Russian Lj that all us "flashmobs" don't faze him because he's been around longer than anyone and has seen it all ( ... )

Oh Cleo, I am so sorry. Please don't go Tennessee Williams on us during the heat wave.

Heh. I actually said yesterday to someone that it was like Cat on a Hot Tin Roof up in here. We're getting it replaced tomorrow, though. I just don't know how we're going to pay for it.

Maybe the Easter Bunny has a special going on. You agree to free 100 of his chocolate brethren and he knocks 50% off the price.

If you manage to stop Sally Forth from running that damn strip about the Hilary's chocolate bunny ears then you can have it for free plus a pony.

An LJ friend of mine who used to work for LJ points out that they won't even notice a one-day strike. Their reports are in one week increments and up, so a one day strike will pass mostly without notice.

She suggests sending postcards instead.
