Okay, wait, since I'm actually more coherent than I thought, I'm going to toss out a theory I entertained in last week's discussion post and am starting to think is seriously possible:
I think Will is going to (accidentally) kill Alana.
Mainly, it's that we seem to be building to both 1) Alana having something terrible happen to her, and 2) Will killing someone (not out of self-defense/defense of another). There's been clues all over the place that Alana's headed somewhere bad, with Chilton and Will warning her and with ominous warnings immediately cutting to shots of her. The season also seems to be about the building of the darkness in Will -- particularly since he just killed Cave Bear Guy. Yet I can't imagine that the growing darkness will end well for Will, especially since he seems to grow more and more trigger-happy. What I imagine the end result will be: Will is going to hurt someone innocent. Probably not on purpose, but I imagine it's gonna happen.
That, and there is that one line: "I wonder who else will be hurt be what you do", said by Hannibal to Will. Note the phrasing: hurt by what you do, not what Hannibal does.
I may be wrong (I am often wrong!) but I wouldn't be shocked if Fuller tried to wound us all by tying those two lines of foreshadowing together. Maybe Will's chasing Hannibal, Alana's running from Hannibal, it's dark, he's trigger-happy, and something bad happens. Maybe not. But I'm wondering if that's where we're headed.
Yeeeeeah. (Where the fuck is Freddie and Kade? Or even Miriam? Why did the female population drop so drastically?)
I really want to be wrong about the death of Alana, but I feel like the clues are pointing that way. Then again, this show does bill itself on being surprising AND I am terrible at making accurate predictions! So there is still hope! (Seriously, I made jokes about "I really doubt Miriam is gonna be hanging out in Hannibal's basement missing an arm.")
Hey, we get Freddie and Alana having a conversation next week! About Hannibal, granted, but at least we'll get two female characters on screen in a non-murdered context.
True! Hopefully talking about more than Hannibal, but hey, I'm still up for it. I admit to checking to see if Season 2 passes the Bechdel Test (so far, no, but Season 1 did). Mostly I'm just sad at lack of Freddie. I MISS HER FABULOUS AWFULNESS.
True, and she also has the advantage of not having any real personal relationships with the main cast and doesn't work for the FBI. So she gets to do what she wants and investigate where she pleases without too many restraints. She and Hannibal should form a "Whatever Whatever I Do What I Want" book club.
I made jokes about "I really doubt Miriam is gonna be hanging out in Hannibal's basement missing an arm."
We were all SO wrong on that one.
But my prediction is that they won't kill Alana this season solely because it would be a waste not to have the long(er) term emotional fallout from the Hannibal reveal. She's the one who's known him the longest, for her it will be the worst.
I would love if they kept Alana for the long-term fallout. I really, really want to be wrong about her getting offed. I love Alana dearly and want her to stay. PLUS: I really hope if we ever get Clarice, or a Clarice expy, we can have Alana there as a living example of Why You Shouldn't Run Off With the Cannibal Man to Buenos Aires.
With regards to Miriam: I'm really hoping her reveal means that if there's no body, we shouldn't accept someone as dead. I really want Season 2 to end with the reveal that Abigail was chilling at Aunt Murasaki's house or something.
"Let's just go down the list of things he's done to the women in his life: the last woman he saw as a Mischa-substitute got turned into veal and had her ear shoved down a guy's throat, his last lady friend was used as a murder-alibi whenever they had sex, and the last FBI trainee he talked to got kept in a basement for two years and her arm sawed off."
The working theory I've heard--and most hope comes to pass--is that Margot is going to enlist Will's help in killing Mason. I know something's going down for Alana, but I hope it's just the BSOD moment when she finally realizes what Hannibal's deal is. Will is definitely going to get his vigilante on, but I'm pulling for him taking out Mason.
I doubt they'll kill off Mason so quickly. I mean, I'm sure Mason is going to be awful as fuck and that everyone will want to see him dead, but I doubt they'll be getting rid of him so quickly. I'm sure his face will be removed as per canon, but I doubt they'll so easily dispose their most despicable villain.
After last week, I actually thought Margot was going to enlist Hannibal to kill Mason. Now, I admit, I don't know quite what she's up to. Hopefully we'll get a better idea of what she's up to in the next couple of episodes, but I could see her enlisting either Will or Hannibal (or both?) at this point.
Oh, I don't think he'll die "quickly," but I can see that becoming a plot thread. I'm holding onto that possibility as an alternative to Alana dying, because NO.
Either way, I am LOVING Katharine Isabelle right now. Seeing her interact with Michael Pitt is going to rock my world, whenever that happens. That goes double for Hugh Dancy.

Well, SOMEONE needs to give Clarice that talk.
