My Matchbox Twenty Night

Sep 30, 2007 01:49

This was just copied and pasted from the RTGD, there may be things that don't make sense because of that:

Ok, so I guess I'll start from the beginning.

So because of traffic, we got there at about 730, so we missed Blue October. My mom and I went right to the front row! and we got to see all of Colby Caliat (sp?) She is so cute!
So then 8:30 rolls around, and that was when we had to go meet Kristin from Mix to go to the Meet and Greet! We go downstairs and find Kristin with a group of people all waiting for the m&g. We get led into the room, my mom and I in front because we were the winners.

We ended up standing in a line for about 10 minutes maybe. I guess the boys were running late. Eventually, the Mix photographer comes out and tells us that this will be really quick (damn!), we could take none of our own pictures and there would be no time for autographs ( ) They also said that because there were way more people than they thought there would be that we would all have to get into big groups to take the picture, no individuals.. damn! However, being the big winners, Kristin made sure that were at the front of a group, so my mom and I pretty much ran over to Rob, in the center, and we made sure we got our arms around him. I was also next to Pookie. I threw my arm around him and pretty much gave him a one arm hug. Pookie and I chatted a little, just the basic "Hey! How are you!" "I'm great! You?" sort of thing... it was so awesome. My mom said to Rob "I am so excited that your new album is coming out on your anniversary!" and Rob replied "haha, you're more excited than my wife!" So i wished him a happy anniversary, and we were pushed aside. (That was the only chance we got to really say anything, i didn't get to mention the GD, sorry!)

The picture was taken and everyone else was ushered out, but my mom and I got talking to some people from Mix who we met at the studio when we went to pick up our tickets yesterday.. so basically, we got to watch everyone else get their pictures taken too. When that was done, and it was insanely fast, the boys went to go record their interview with John Lander for the morning show. Kristin, being insanely awesome, told us that if we were quiet and if no one noticed, my mom and I could go watch the interview. So we did!! We stood in the back while the boys talking to John Lander and joking with each other. They were given a sheet of lines to record for the radio, ya know, the "this is Rob Thomas and you're listening to Mix 98.5" things. Well, Rob read one introducing the Nutcracker... after he giggles and says "heh, nutcracker" then Paul reads his and he screws it up and says "Fuck! i did it wrong!" and he reads it again, his was "Having a ball? If not, John Lander will crack yours with the Nutcracker up next" (or something along those lines) and Rob giggles and says "heh, balls". Some one from the station then said "you let fuck go but balls is funny??" it was really funny.
So when they finished that, they had to go out to do some TV thing, but we were told it was private, so we had to leave. We were led back out from back stage and told we had to meet Kristin again at 9:45. So my mom and I made it back for most of Daughtry.. we missed the beginning, and we had to leave before the end. But thats ok.. we got some good pictures. We missed all of Mat Kearny, but it was totally worth it.

At 9:45 we go back out to the lobby. We handed our front row tickets over to my sister and her boyfriend who were sitting somewhere in the middle. We were told that we could not bring a camera on stage, so my sister took it and she got some really good pics. My mom and I were led backstage again. Since the show was running late, we stood around for a while backstage. We were pretty much guarded every minute, and we were told to stay completely out of the way. We saw Chris Daughtry come off stage and then we had to wait while the stage was broken down. Eventually, we were lead down a hall, past Daughtry's dressing room, past Matchbox Twenty's dressing room, past Blue October's dressing room, and to the loading dock. Once again, we had to wait out of the way, but it was still cool to see Daughtry's set being broken down, and Kristin was really nice. Gregg Daniels (the DJ who called me to tell me I won, and the host of the show) came over to congratualate me and we talked for a bit. He was wicked nice.

Finally, we were led onto the stage. We were lectured before hand that we were not allowed to stand up, move too much, scream too much, or really do anything that might be distracting to the band. Again, on stage, we were pretty much told to stay seated, stay out of the way of the techies (we were RIGHT next to the piano). It was so awesome! I waved to a few GDers in the audience (You were awesome! I'm sorry I don't know your name...) Not too long later..

Matchbox Twenty comes out!!! It was sooo exciting to be right there on stage with them!! When the first came out, Pookie smiled as us and I gave him a thumbs up. Paul was right next to us the whole time. He was having guitar troubles. Almost everytime he switched guitars, he had to go to the guy at the sound table because his guitar wasn't working. There seemed to be a lot of tech troubles.. Rob stopped Long Day when the first came out, and then during Bright Lights, Rob motioned to the sound guy almost frantically.

Regardless.. It was so amazing. It was just cool to be so close to actually see that! Unfortunately, because we were behind the speakers, we couldn't hear much of what Rob said. Paul was excellent on the guitar! Kyle looked great, Pookie looked really good! They all seemed to be having a really great time. The highlight for me and my mom, though, was during Push, the last song. Rob, at one point, gives us this really big two handed wave. My mom waved back a big two handed wave. I freaked a little and only gave this little wave. Then!! Towards the end! Rob comes over to us and gives us each a big high five!!!!!! OMG!!!

We were a little disappointed that there was no encore. So we were led off stage and back backstage, into the hall with all the dressing rooms. We got part way down the hall when a security guard tells us we need to stop and get up against the wall and out of the way. Apparently, Rob and Mari had a plane to NY to catch. We figured that since they were running late and they had a plane to catch, thats why there was no encore. So we were told to be quiet.. so screaming. We waited a few minutes and we saw Chris Daughtry leave at one point. Then, Rob comes out, followed very shortly by the amazingly beautiful Mari! They also left with a little boy, Maison (!!). We managed to thank them for the show as they left, but Rob didn't say anything. Which was really ok with me.. he passed within inches!!!

Once they passed, we were led towards the exit. We get to the bottom of a set of stairs and Kristin was explaining to us how we get out. Well, right there, leaning up against a wall, just feet away from us.. was Chris Daughtry and 2 other guys. We waves and he gave us a wink and a thumbs up!! It was so beyond awesome!!

After that we left and our night was officially over. But, wow.. This was defnitely a night I will never forget! This was my 5th Matchbox Twenty show, but I count the 2 Rob shows I've been to and I have been calling this one Lucky Number 7!

I promise, tomorrow, I will post my pictures and as soon as Mix sends me the ones from the Meet and Greet, I'll post those too!! (I didn't proof this, sorry for any typos)

And, again, I'm sorry.. who was the GDer I waved to in the audience????
