My Mom talked with a psychic the other day. Among other things, she mentioned that Lila & I are like oil & water right now. But as we learn to work together, I’ll also learn what I need to get to my career in life. Interesting.
There’s been a lot of yelling in the house. I think I’m going to try to stick to giving up yelling for Lent. See if I can live a more peaceful life… and not explode.
Lila facts and notes:
She likes to have dance parties with Dada. But she’ll only dance to “girl” songs. :)
We went to Vertical Endeavors on my b-day so Charlie could climb some. He’s still trying to convince me that I would like this sport. He got Lila climbing in the bouldering area. “A natural climber” he called her, noting she has great natural technique.
My Lila dear, go nutty with the climbing with Dada. I hope you two have a lot of fun. But spare me the heart attack and please don’t actually climb the face of a mountain…
I should be glad Mason can’t talk more than baby talk yet. Lila dropped the “GD” in Target the other day, while smiling. (I think the D part was changed quickly to dang it while viewing my reaction.) Charlie said he was glad he wasn’t there because he would have laughed and congratulated her. I went into appalled Mommy mode and told her “I NEVER want to hear that come out of your mouth again!” She slid under the cart and we moved on.
You know what’s hard? Explaining why you don’t want to say you “hate” everything to a three year old. Hate is a very strong word, my mom told me…
She has a thing with “I’m right, you’re wrong” right now. Sometimes it’s fine. Yes, you are right. Sometimes it’s infuriating. No, sweetie, you’re not right. But you can’t tell her that. The one day she actually admitted to being wrong about something, which was very minor, she almost cried. God, it’s hard to be three.
And one of my biggest pet peeves is to be told I’m wrong when I’m not. She’s three. I have to be the one to get over that.
I think we have control issues. Both of us. Oil & water…
Right now she also has to have her shirts tucked in. Not just her shirts - any top. Wear a dress with pants? Tuck the dress in. Wear a nightgown with leggings? Tuck the shirt in. Honey, you don’t have to tuck that in… or Lilee, that shirt’s not meant to be tucked in… “I LIKE tucking my shirts in!” Okay… doesn’t do any harm… just gives you a big puffy butt like those old Charmin commercials…
I gave up on the getting dressed fight and let her wear a dress, no tights, no socks, and dress boots with her sweater and coat on backwards to daycare a couple of weeks ago. That’s right, in February. “See, Mommy, I told you I wouldn’t be cold.” Yes, yes you did.
I wish I could remember some of her random sentences to write down. Stuff that you would never thing could or should be put into a sentence together. Makes no sense at all. It makes you smile… What makes that three year old brain go ‘round?
There is some jealousy setting in. Sharing toys with Mason is getting to be hard. If we say he does something cute, she has to copy in her silly way. We’ve got to remember to split our attention equally. She is so funny, so clever…
Last Lila note, she also talks in her sleep now. The other night she yelled for me. I climbed into bed with her (she has bunk beds now!)… and as she slept, she said, “Tomato salad… Yum, yum, yum.”
Or so I thought. The next day when I said something, she said “Potato salad?” Yum, yum, yum…
Mason notes:
Ah, as I type I note a lack of Mason notes. He is growing so much every day. Over 20 lbs now! And thank God for antibiotics. They finally put him on some when diagnosed with pneumonia and now he’s not hacking up a lung each day. Ahhhhh, sweet clear breaths. :)
And he loves music! Charlie had some crazy music on the computer the other day and he just “danced” away, bouncing and swinging those arms. He also loves the keyboard in their room. I can almost guarantee a lack of crying if I place him in front of it while I have to change a diaper or walk to another room for a bit.
8 months old and all he wants to do is stand! And he’s been taking steps! Not steady on his feet yet, but his legs are strong. He can sit and scoot around a bit, but doesn’t make much sign of learning to crawl. I’m waiting for him to just take off running on me someday soon. Yikes!
I’m also trying a bit more to teach and learn some basic sign language. I didn’t do so well teaching Lila. He’s doing great copying certain gestures. You can just see that little brain thinking and trying to copy. He’ll do something similar to the “all done” gesture and the one for “milk”, although I’m not sure he’s connecting the words to the actions. But we’re trying!
He’s such a little joy still. You should see his whole face light up when he smiles. :)
Oh - and one last note… last night he did try to put the correct shapes in the correct holes with me while playing on the floor. OK, if you don’t have kids, I’m sure this seems mundane… but each new thing tried and accomplished is exciting in my world.
Amended: one last note... playing the gagee game. Charlie used to pass the pacifier (gagee) back and forth between his mouth and Lila's. I played with Mason the other morning in this fashion. He picked up on the fun quickly, and would try to get it into my mouth (plastic end, not pacifier end) for me. Such joy in the little things. :)
My kids, God I am blessed. :)
