Elkader, flood donations
So I just spoke with Sue Gnagy who will be the volunteer coordinator in Elkader and right now they don't quite know what they need. The churches are handling evening meals and they have to buy them, so immediately they could use money to buy those meals. Sue said her church fed 250 people last night. I have a contact name for St. Joe's, Ann Gibney, but haven't reached her yet. (I just left a message at the office.)
The Red Cross just got there and is setting up camp; Sue thought they may take over meal services (but I think they still have to buy them..?). FEMA is also getting there and setting up offices. I've got Sue's phone number. She'll be setting up camp at the fire station. They're opening up sewer drains and trying to drain the streets slowly so basements don't collapse. They have two people there to assess the damage.
When I talk to Ann, I'll put out a more informed posting for donations up here.
