Summary:
When a lie was heard and Jaejoong’s heart broke into pieces, how will Yunho make his life complete after they got married and found out that love isn’t a part of it?
Previous Chapters Jaejoong was lying in a prone position on the bed when Yunho arrived and lied down beside him. The older boy closed his eyes after Jaejoong acknowledge his presence. Yunho has been unusually quiet since he came that made Jaejoong scrunched his eyebrows out of puzzlement.
“Hyung what’s wrong?” He closed the book he was reading and seated up straight on his bed. Yunho was not answering him and it turned out that he was not even in the mood to reply to that. It bothered Jaejoong a lot seeing him like that but what can Jaejoong do when Yunho did not want to talk about it?
The room was quiet until Yunho suddenly pulled Jaejoong towards him and made his friend lie on its side. Yunho wrapped his arms around Jaejoong while Jaejoong put his arm over his hyung’s waist. Yunho’s arm became Jaejoong’s pillow. The two of them lied on the bed like that until they both fallen asleep.
In that position, Jaejoong’s mom found them. She smiled at the two and the suspicions ended right at that moment. Her son Jaejoong was an innocent freshman and Yunho was a responsible senior.
‘They’re just friends… Yunho has been talking care of my Jaejoong since they were young.’ She happily thought as she walked downstairs deciding that the two deserved as much sleep as possible on a Saturday afternoon.
When Jaejoong woke up and found himself within his hyung’s arms, their faces closed to each other and Yunho’s breath tickled the side of his ears, he felt blood creeping upon his face. It wasn’t the first time he woke up with Yunho sleeping beside him but the warmth and the ease plus the handsome face of his hyung never failed to amaze him. These were the arms that secure him and protect him. If possible, he would want to wake up in these arms forever until they grew old and tired of each other.
“Never grow tired of me hyung.” Jaejoong murmured as he kissed Yunho on the forehead and wriggled out of his hyung’s hold.
After the comfort was gone, Yunho slowly opened his eyes and searched for the person that before was on his arms and now was suddenly nowhere to be found. He narrowed his eyes because of the sudden light that irritated him. He rose on the bed and rubbed the sleepiness out of his eyes then searched for his best friend inside the room. When he found no Jaejoong, he walked downstairs and looked inside the kitchen where he finally saw the beautiful form of his friend.
“How long have you been awake, Joongie?” He gently spoke so as not to startle Jaejoong.
The younger boy did not even turn to glance at Yunho before he replied. He just continued to stir whatever it was he was cooking in the pot. The smell was wonderful and it made Yunho felt the hungriness that was not there awhile ago.
“What are you cooking Joongie?”
“Corn soup hyung…” he simply answered.
‘Ah corn soup.’ Yunho smiled. It was him who introduced Jaejoong the corn soup. It was when they were young and his umma brought Jaejoong and him to a restaurant. The soup seemed to enticed Jaejoong until he bugged his mother - Mrs. Kim to teach him how to make that one. Mind you, he was only ten at that time and the thought of cooking already made him interested. The corn soup has been a part of their childhood and it was the first food Jaejoong had learned to cook.
“Done.” Jaejoong chimed happily. Yunho helped him bring the pot over the table. Jaejoong brought two bowls and spoons then he let Yunho served him the soup.
Jaejoong watched as he watched Yunho ate his soup. That smile was what he was waiting for every time he cooked. No words were needed to be uttered… only those sweet and sincere smile.
“Yummy.” Yunho continued eating but stopped after he noticed that Jaejoong only stared at him.
“Eat Joongie. Come on.” He only came back to his eating when Jaejoong began eating his share of food too.
When they were done, Yunho chose to be quiet as gather the courage then held his best friend’s hands with his. He sighed heavily two to three times before he spoke.
“Joongie, do you trust hyung?”
“Yes hyung. What’s wrong?” He raised his eyebrow as he silently watched his hyung changed facial expressions.
“Well Joongie, I-I don’t want you getting too close with that Donghae. I don’t trust him.”
“But hyu-”
“No buts Joongie. Remember, you promised me that you would not let anyone touch you, right?” When Jaejoong nodded, Yunho continued.
“Then Joongie, I’m not saying that you should stay away from Donghae… what I’m trying to tell you… well, you should be more careful around him. I heard that you are coming with him to the party, I’ll be watching the two of you but still you should try and be careful of your surroundings, okay?” Yunho watched the display of emotion on his young friend.
“Okay hyung, I understand.” Jaejoong tightened his hold on Yunho’s hand then smiled at his hyung.
The noise wasn’t deafening but Yunho was getting irritated at that slowly. His eyes squinted as he watched Jaejoong and Donghae talk. Since the start of the party, his gorgeous friend has been the center of attention.
The moment he walked inside the hall with Yunho was the worst part of it. Being the kingka Yunho, every girl gathered around them just to get his attention. May it be freshmen or seniors like him. He did not even noticed when Jaejoong was pulled by a fellow student and got stuck in a crowd of both men and women.
The program will just about to start but for Yunho, it seemed forever before it ended. Doojoon and Yoochun just laughed at him and the annoyed look on their friend’s face.
“Junsu, how’s the attention?” Yoochun teased. The boy was not any different with his close friend Jaejoong though he arrived later than the said boy. Because of his friendly and bubbly nature, friends weren’t hard to earn. They went to him without even looking for it.
“Uhh hyung… it’s alright but I wanted to know everyone… but I kept on being stuck with only one group.” Junsu pouted, receiving a pat on the head by both Yoochun and Doojoon.
“At least you’re comfortable with it unlike Jaejoong.” The three of them observed how Jaejoong fidgeted and played with his fingers. He was undeniably nervous without Yunho around. The boy kept stealing glances on his surrounding probably from searching for Yunho.
“Yeah you’re right hyung…” Junsu mumbled. Then he pulled both Doojoon and Yoochun from the wrist and headed towards Jaejoong.
“If you wouldn’t mind, can we borrow Jaejoong for a moment before I let you harass him again?” Yoochun did not wait for the reply of those people surrounding Jaejoong. He just let Junsu drag Jaejoong with them since only the dolphin could touch him. He wouldn’t risk his life, not yet.
When they were out of everyone’s sight, Jaejoong sighed in relief then frantically looked for his hyung whom he was dying to talk to since he arrived.
“He’s outside Jae. I’ll bring you to him.” Junsu told him. He only nodded and said his thanks to his hyungs first before trailing behind Junsu with their hands on hold.
They found Yunho sulking in a bench outside the party area. He was looking up at the sky and staring at how the stars were twinkling so bright. The moon was on its full bloom adding to the beauty of the night. His heart was beating so fast when he made his way towards the person he dreaded to be with. He did not notice that Junsu already left him. He watched as his hyung leaned his head towards the bench and closed his eyes.
‘Why should you be so handsome hyung?’ He asked himself. Those pretty girls earlier were annoying him. They just crowded them and take his hyung away from him.
Jaejoong silently sat beside Yunho. He leaned closer to Yunho and wrapped his left arm over Yunho’s waist as he searched for the warmth that only his hyung could give him. Automatically, Yunho’s arms wrapped itself unto Jaejoong’s and his nose buried deeply on the younger boy’s neck.
“Why are you here hyung?” Jaejoong asked. He let go of his hold but Yunho remained his. It’ll be awkward if someone saw them like that.
“Just one minute Jae… they’ve been taking you away from me the whole night.” Yunho murmured. His eyes were closed so he couldn’t see that Jaejoong was blushing furiously that moment. Jaejoong wanted to tell those thing too to his hyung but he thought otherwise.
When Yunho unwrapped his arms, Jaejoong was already on his composed self. He observed how the once annoyed and sad Yunho changed into a happy and contented Yunho.
“Hyung… le-let’s lessen our skin ship. People are getting the wrong notion about it.”
“Why? Do you care more on what they’ll say instead of what I’ll feel?” Yunho asked, annoyance was evidence on the tone of his voice. It was the first time Jaejoong talk about it and it surprised him a bit.
“It’s not that hyung.” Jaejoong sighed before he continued. “Forget about it hyung. Let’s just go back inside.”
Jaejoong stood up and Yunho followed. The party was just about to end when they get back inside. As soon as they got in, Donghae was instantly beside Jaejoong whispering something that made his young friend laugh.
“The face of the night award goes to… Kim Jaejoong of 1-A.” the spot light stopped to where Jaejoong was standing. Every one clapped and applauded for Jaejoong who walked to the stage and received the huge white teddy bear as an award. Some chuckled at the boy’s cuteness with the way he was struggling to get a hold and carry the prize that was towering him. Yunho helped him bring the bear down the stage. The two managed to put it on an empty sit beside Junsu.
“Congrats Joongie.” Junsu enveloped his friend in his arms.
“Thank you Su.”
One by one, the students left. Only the student council was around checking if the hall was free from students. Jaejoong was waiting for Yunho. Yunho’s mom was supposed to fetch them from school. It was only 8 in the evening but Jaejoong was already sleepy. He let out a yawn after he glanced at his watch. His hyung was still busy so he closed his eyes from a moment until he fell asleep.
“Hey Yunho, your lover’s already sleeping there.” One of Yunho’s co-student council members teased while pointing to where Jaejoong was.
“He’s a friend, don’t be malicious.” Yunho pointed out. He was done and his mother had just arrived. He picked up Jaejoong gently so that the boy wouldn’t wake up. Jaejoong stirred for a moment but then he cuddled closer to Yunho and kept sleeping. Yunho chuckled at the cuteness before proceeding towards the parking lot. His mom greeted softly and opened the door for Yunho to get in with Jaejoong resting on his lap.
“He’s really tired.” Mrs. Jung spared Jaejoong a glance before starting off the engine.
“Neh umma. There are just too many students who wanted to get close to him. Be friends and use him.” Yunho muttered bitterly. He pouted in return when his mother chuckled at him.
“What?” His mom questioned with those smile lingering on her beautiful face.
“Stop it mom.”
“Jaejoong needed someone to lean on other than you Yunho. Have you told Jaejoong yet about you leaving to study abroad?” His mother frowned then glanced at her son.
“I by now decided not to go umma. At least, not yet.” Yunho spoke. He was busy playing with Jaejoong’s locks, twirling it with his hand and straightening it after.
“Still son, you should let Jaejoong have other friends aside from you.”
“He has Junsu, Doojoon and Yoochun. They’re enough.”
“Yunho, listen. Jaejoong needs other people. I know you understand me Yunho. You can’t keep Jaejoong forever by yourself.” Mrs. Jung stopped speaking when Jaejoong stirred.
“I know umma but I can’t help it.”
“Do you love him?” Yunho choked and stared wide eye at his umma.
“Yeah I do umma. I love Jaejoong as my little best friend. Whatever you’re implying, I don’t quite get it.”
Unknowingly, Mrs. Jung frowned. She always thought that Yunho loved Jaejoong more than a friend. It shown on how he cared for the younger boy but maybe she thought wrong. Just like what her husband said, maybe she was being too malicious and fangirl-ing on her son’s relationship with Jaejoong. She just adored the boy, adored him to the point that she’ll let Yunho fall in love with Jaejoong even forced him to.
Twenty minutes after, they arrived outside the Kim’s home. It was Mrs. Jung who rang the door bell since Jaejoong was still sleeping soundly on her son’s arms. Yunho shifted the weight two times before the door finally opened. Mrs. Kim greeted them and let Yunho put Jaejoong to bed. The two adults talked for a few moments as they waited for Yunho to come back down.
“Good night Joongie. I’ll see you on Monday.” Yunho pecked Jaejoong on the forehead then pulled the blanket just above the boy’s chest but before he could even pulled it totally Jaejoong woke up with an irritated look on his face.
“What’s wrong?” Yunho asked, this time he sat beside the man.
“Itchy…”
“Wash your face and change your clothes then. Hyung has to leave already. Umma’s waiting downstairs.” Yunho explained.
“Okay hyung. Be careful and good night.” Jaejoong smiled as he stood and embraced his hyung briefly. He watched Yunho made his way downstairs then he closed the door when Yunho’s nowhere in sight. He leaned his body on the door as he thought of Yunho and the warmth that was still lingering on his body. When the beating of his heart normalized, Jaejoong stepped inside the bathroom and took a shower.
The following week, Jaejoong and Yunho’s time together lessen while Donghae and Jaejoong’s time lengthened. They were being watched by Yunho who did nothing to disturb the two instead he let Jaejoong decide whover he wanted to spend time with. He contemplated on what his mother told him a few nights ago. His mom was right. Jaejoong deserved other people to be with. The younger boy will even be more responsible as he learn new things from other people.
But why did his heartache seeing Jaejoong smile so sweetly at Donghae when those smiles were once only his. He grew selfish. He was way possessive, way too protective when it came to Jaejoong. Because of him, Jaejoong grew vulnerable and dependent on him. He still hasn’t talk about the issue of him leaving and knowing Jaejoong, he knew that the boy will not take the news in good terms.
His thoughts were interrupted when he heard something heavy landed beside him.
“Yah, Yunho! I’ve been calling your name for many times already. What’s wrong with you?” Yoochun asked but Yunho’s eyes were focused on the books he put on the bench.
“Ah! I need to study. The exams are nearing. I have grades to take care of and so are you. You should do well in every test because of the recommendation Yunho.”
Yoochun slumped down on the free side of the bench and narrowed his eyes when he saw that Yunho wasn’t even listening.
“Geez Yunho. If you’re jealous, just talk to Jaejoong.”
“I’m not jealous. I’m thinking of how to drop the bomb at Jaejoong.” He said.
“Yah! Are you trying to get Jaejoong killed because of jealousy?” Yoochun almost yelled but Yunho slapped Yoochun not so gently on the back.
“Don’t be stupid Chun. I meant the news, okay? Jaejoong has no idea about me leaving.”
Yoochun rubbed the part Yunho had hit.
“I’m sorry.” Yunho mumbled.
“Just tell him before it’s too late Yun.” Yoochun told him before he left the man then picked up the books he borrowed from the library.
“If it’s that easy to say, I wouldn’t be here getting distress.” Yunho stood up from where he was sitting and let his feet dragged him towards Jaejoong.
“Hyung!” Jaejoong squealed as soon as he saw Yunho heading to where he was. He let Jaejoong held his hands as the younger boy led the spinning that ended up Jaejoong getting dizzy.
“I miss you…” the boy whispered close to Yunho’s ear.
“But it doesn’t seem that way.” He teased making Jaejoong pout with the boy’s arms crossed on the chest.
“I’m kidding Joongie. I miss you too. I’ve been busy these past few days. How’s having a new playmate?” His grin hid the sadness that he was feeling. From now on and the days that will follow, he has to make sure that no one will tell Jaejoong anything about him leaving. He was to make sure that every mouth was shut. He’ll try his best to conceal the guilt and the sorrow of leaving his friend when he promised that he’ll never leave the younger boy.
“Pft hyungie. I’m not a kid anymore. Donghae isn’t my playmate. He’s my friend.”
“Alright. Alright. Come here.” He reached his hand towards Jaejoong and when the latter took it, he suddenly pulled Jaejoong making the boy crashed towards him.
Jaejoong’s head was comfortably leaning on Yunho’s chest. Yunho’s right hand encircled on his waist and the other was on the back of his neck. His hand was resting just below Yunho’s shoulder. The sweet fragrance of Jaejoong lingered on Yunho’s nose -the same sweet vanilla and strawberry that never changed. He savored the smell before he let Jaejoong loose.
“Let’s go home hyung.”
“Yes. Let’s go home.” Yunho took Jaejoong’s hand with his, not being aware of the piercing gaze from one of the girls who liked Yunho so much.
“I’ll make you pay.” The woman mumbled. The pencil within her hold snapped into two as she retreated from the view that was making her overly envious. Yunho was hers. Jaejoong was a threat. The two of them shouldn’t be together… even as friends.
