Many years ago I wrote this stupid list outlining when it's acceptable for a grown man to cry. I think the instances included the death of a family member/close friend, the retirement announcement of a beloved sports hero, and the moment in the theater when the words "A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away …" give way to the symphonic explosion of John Williams' Star Wars theme. The 2015 version of the list also includes watching Dave Letterman's last show. Aside from sports I don't really watch broadcast television any more, but it was always comforting to know that Dave, the man who raised me, was still on the air. At an early age, Dave taught me it was better to be weird, that it was the cranks who were usually the most decent humans in the room, and that life was profoundly, maddeningly unfair.
On May 20 the waterworks commence. A repeat occurrence is scheduled for December 18.
