Listen to This Fucking Asshole
A couple years ago I came across this Times article about Marc Maron, a comedian I remember liking from his Conan appearances in the '90s. According to the Times piece Maron had become culturally relevant again by launching an interview podcast that he recorded out of his garage. I started listening, and WTF would eventually become a gateway drug to a host of other comedy podcasts -- just about every L.A.-based comic has one -- as well as the occasional sports-themed series. And then I discovered This American Life, which makes me such a late adopter that any observation I make about the NPR program is stale and obvious out of the gate.
This recent installment -- an ode to summer camp -- is undeniably charming, but otherwise the show should be renamed Listen to These Fucking Assholes. The young newlyweds suckered into buying a defective house by a seemingly kind elderly couple, and now they shoplift from the local home improvement store to even the cosmic scale? The woman who sued the casino after gambling away her million-dollar inheritance? Starlee Kine? Listen to these fucking assholes. I'm the only motherfucker in the world who hate-listens to This American Life.
