Ed Note: I won't go into big details of all the talks right now and cover more of the other highlights of my time at the conference. I'm keeping notes of everything I go to and will review some time next week.
Started by a reminder that I can never take a vacation from work. Got a text message saying that a redirect on the admission site wasn't working, but asking who to contact to fix it. After a few texts, got it resolved on the way to the Moscone.
After checking in, I went up stairs to wait for breakfast. While there, met up with some of the Boston crew like Matt and Darius. Also met a kid who goes to MIT. I get some breakfast, play some DS with people, then get to the Indy game dev conference. I'll review with my big wrap-up of the conference some time next week on each talk. Some were great, others not so much.
Between breaks, I would talk with people around me. Almost all of them were from the Boston area. Strange? Very. I also got in some pretty large sessions of Mario Kart with people. Thank heaven for direct download play.
I skipped out of the Q&A part of the last talk with one of the kids making Portals to make it to the Telltale party. Emily invited me, so I guess I had to go. *smerk*
After all the time talking to her though the internets, I finally got to meet her face to face. Not to mention all the other folks at Telltale. First Emily starting demoing Episode 5 for us. And while I didn't sign a NDA, I won't spill the beans for you all. I will say that it's full of awesome.
Eventually an assortment of Telltale employees, Gametap people, press, and other people roll into the bar, including the mavericks such as
David Grossman,
Dan Connors and
Kevin Bruner and the rest of the Telltale team.
I bounced around the place talking with various people from Telltale folk, press, and various academics. Got some nice talk time with Connors and Grossman. Chatted a little with Emily, but she was also running the event so I didn't want to take much of her time. Also chatted with people about
slyvie's
Sam & Max cookies.
This post isn't really explaining much of the day very well, but it's 1am and I have to do all this again tomorrow. More Indy conference during the day and the IGDA party at night.
