I won my first battle with health insurance this week.
Last week I got a bill from MGH Hospital for $100. My ER visit copay is $50, so I was rather shocked to find a $100 bill. Since it was an even $100, I figured that they charged me for two visits. Since I went in the ER at 10pm and came out 6am, I could see the computers acting as if it were two visits since it took over two calendar days.
I frist called the MGH billing people and they didn't know anything, so I left a message for Harvard Pilgrim explaining the situation. Turns out I was correct! They're going to pay MGH for the extra $50. I have to wait for the next bill to show up from MGH so I can pay my copay (not $100), but all is well.
