Jake!

First Thursday of the holidays and Hannah was already bored with being home. Spending time with her family was fun up to a point, but that had passed long ago. Their holiday was still a week away, and now she was so bored that she could cry ( Read more... )

Any reason to get out of the house and away from Julie-Ann gushing about how cute the puppies were was good for him.

"Stop being early place," Jake told Hannah as soon as he saw her. "I always feel bad."

"I'm always early," she said coyly, and smiled at him. "And you're always late. What's been up?"

"I'm on time. You're obsessively early," Jake maintained.

Shrugging, he shoved his hands in his pockets like he always did. "Nothing really. Trying to get rid of Julie's puppies. Want one or two...hell, three?"

Hannah had to try so hard from saying 'yes'. "Josie's allergic," she said ruefully, frowning slightly. "My stupid little sister always gets in the way, one time Pete brought an abandoned cat home and we had to give her away 'cause of Josie," she explained to Jake, looking up expectantly at the ice cream shop in a hint to him.

"Get her some allergy shots or something." Of course, he was a lot more sympathetic than he let on. Jake was deathly allergic to anything even resembling a peanut so he understood.

He followed where she was looking and smirked. "Are you trying to tell me something?"

"You really want to get rid of the puppies?" she asked, raising her eyebrows and laughing slightly, before she turned her attention back to the ice cream shop. She pouted slightly, her eyes wide, and shrugged. "You did promise me ice cream, months ago," she said, her lower lip wibbling slightly.

"Yes," he said simply.

When she pouted, Jake already knew he'd get her ice cream. He was always like that with pouting girls. Plus, he'd probably had a thing for Hannah off and on for three years anyway. "I don't remember that...I think you're making it up."

"I wouldn't lie to you, would I?" she asked, inclining her head to one side and smirking slightly. "I'm the very person of truth and niceness," she improvised, and giggled lightly.

"So self-conscious," he laughed and walked past her to pull the door of the ice cream shop open.

"Come on then. You're lucky I like you."

She laughed and clapped her hands together in triumph. "Aww, Jake, I knew you'd see my way of thinking soon enough!" She followed him in, and immediately started to ponder all of the choices of ice cream.

"Don't concentrate too hard or we'll never get out of here," he laughed, already having in mind what he wanted. He always got the same thing.

"There's just so much choice!" she said, looking around the place. "I couldn't possibly pick one thing that was the best," she sighed slightly, making decisions was hopeless in her case.

She was such a typical girl, never making up her mind.

"Get three scoops of different stuff each," he tried to be helpful. That's what Natalie usually did anyway.

She rolled her eyes. "Since when did you make the decisions for me?" she asked him. "I think I'll have two scoops, but one of them has to be chocolate," she said, pleased at having reached some kind of decision.

"Some one's got to do it," he laughed and waved some younger girl to go around them while he watched Hannah intently.

"That's a step up. I always just get chocolate. I'm boring."

She poked her tongue out at him and gave him a slightly patronising look. "I always know what I want in the end," she told him, and looked around again. "Chocolate with toffee," she said firmly. "So if I die of too much sugar, at least it tasted good."
