Apple Breakfast Bread Recipe

Apr 11, 2006 09:18

I'm being a dork and looking up recipes to use next year (can you tell I'm looking forward to that kitchen?!?) and I found this one. And, Beth, if you want to try it, it looks quick and easy to me, though I am not sure where to find shortening. But if you don't think so, I will just have to try it next year... On my roommates, MWAhahaha!

Ingredients:

* 2 cups Flour
* 3 Apples
* 1 teaspoon Salt
* 4 teaspoons Baking powder
* 2 tablespoons Brown sugar
* 4 tablespoons Shortening
* 3/4 cup Milk
* 2 cups Raisins -- chopped
* 1 teaspoon Cinnamon
* 1 Egg -- well beaten
* 2 tablespoons Butter -- melted
* 2 tablespoons Brown sugar

Directions:

Sift flour, measure, and sift with baking powder, salt, and sugar. Cut in shortening and add raisins. Add sufficient milk to which egg has been added to make stiff dough. Mix thoroughly. Pour into well-oiled shallow pan. Brush dough with melted butter.

Pare, quarter, and core apples and cut in thin slices. Arrange in rows in the dough, allowing edges to overlap. Brush apples with more melted butter and sprinkle with cinnamon and brown sugar, which have been mixed together.

Bake in moderate oven (400 F) 20 minutes or until apples are tender.
