Alas.

Since I tend not to post so much anymore.

Blame a job that has me not sitting in front of a computer all day... which is actually a nice break, but has also allowed me to become INCREDIBLY behind on emails and general computer research (my apologies to Rachel for comicon condos, and yes, I know I could be doing that research right now, but I promise I will as soon as I write this; and also to anyone else who I have neglected digitally over the past month).

Things are well.  Maggie and Tessie (kitten's new name) get along pretty well.  Every once in awhile they will snap at each other but no one has drawn blood yet, and we think they're just testing boundaries and expressing ownership of certain areas of the apartment.  Previously, ownership stood thusly:

Annick and Nate: whole apartment, top of bed
Maggie: Under the Bed

When we first got Tessie, ownership became:

Annick and Nate: Kitchen, living room floor, TV, top of bed, desk
Maggie: Under the bed
Tessie: Living room couch, top of kitchen table

Now it stands:

Annick and Nate: Where ever Tessie is not
Tessie: whole apartment
Maggie: nothing.

So sad.

Christmas was pretty alright.  Christmas Eve, I did a lot of shopping and baking and finishing things and then made cornish hens that seemed undercooked for about an hour and then were suddenly overcooked.  They were alright, but could have been a lot better.  We watched South Park's Xmas episodes DVD that Becky got me for xmas, and were substantially in the mood for the holiday.  Christmas morning we got up and opened presents, then called our respective families.  I am very proud that my mother did not cry, so that was a great moment for her, I think.  Then Nate and I relaxed and watched massive amounts of Xmas movies while gorging ourselves on cookies and candy and then I made ham and (not-so-great) scalloped potatoes for dinner.  We started to watch Muppet Christmas Carol (arguably the best adaptation of Dickens' short story, IMHO) and then both started to doze.  We had decorated the apartment sparsely, with a strand of xmas cards on a ribbon over the door and the stockings that Nate's family got us last year up on another ribbon (damn you no fireplace!).  We couldn't find one small tree that was in our price range so ended up finding 3 outdoor threes that are 2' tall for $13, but the only trouble was that they didn't stands, they were meant to poke into the ground.  So we were crafty and wrapped a cardboard box in wrapping paper, fashioned makeshift stands for the trees, and stuck the sticks in the cardboard.  We felt very proud when they stood together, our holiday forest, all straight and pretty.  We ended up buying some cheap decorations and Tessie went nuts.  But orange peels under the forest worked pretty well in keeping her away.

I work today through Friday which is slightly tedious just because Nate is at home being lazy and warm with our cuddly animals.  But I hope everyone had a nice yesterday (whether you celebrate Xmas or not)! Wooo.
