I haven't posted lately, mostly because I'm not the wreck that I was a couple months ago.
No angst.
My uncle is ok. Not better, but not worse. My plan of doing everything possible to forget about the family situation is going remarkably well so far. Progress towards the Dark Tower is going steadily. Not my usual rapid reading pace, but I've had a bit of interference:
WAR OF THE RING for the PC.
RTS game based in Middle-Earth. And god help me, I'm addicted. I swore I was done with video games, and especially computer games, but dammit all, I couldn't help myself. There is nothing better to take your mind of what ails you then watching 50 Riders of Rohan dominate an army of Uruk-Hai as Aragorn boosts Legolas and Gimli's powers and Huorns prevent Trolls from decimating my ranks.
8 person multiplayer? Oh fuck yes.
In other news, last Saturday was my birthday, which I allowed to go more or less unnoticed. My parents took me out to lunch (I felt obligated), but aside from that, nada.
Just the way I like it.
I hate the phony-ness surrounding birthdays. The hugs, the congratulations, the cheap, insincere gifts. Fuck that. The people who really mattered got in touch with me, and that was enough. I'll see the rest of my family this weekend, so it's all good. Who needs a celebration to commemorate the fact that I'm one year closer to being a feast for crows? Not I. Pessimistic? Yes. Realistic? Yes.
Classes are great. Even Bio is actually interesting at the moment.
My only worry is, shockingly, my English class. I thought I was pretty knowledgable about the subject, but one 75 minute Narrative and Interpretation class made that belief completely unfounded. The depth and complexity of the subject of Literary Criticism is astounding, and is enough to make my head spin.
I love it.
Peace and good karma.
