As many of you know, I'm sure,
Goodreads is currently posting stories for their event "Love Is Always Write." If you aren't following it, please check it out. There are some great stories up now, but one in particular that I just had to rec.
I hope at least some of you are familiar with Kaje Harper. If not, hie thee hence and read
Life Lessons.
Her LiAW story (though at over 60,000 words, I think it qualifies as a novella) is called Into Deep Waters. Not only is it a fantastic read on its own, but seemed particularly poignant to read it just before Memorial Day. It's a love story, a life story, between two WWII Navy sailors. Here's the prompt/summary:
We met onboard, both of us so very young - still in our teens - but we were old enough to serve our country. And against all odds, and the many risks involved, we fell in love and have managed to stay together for the last 60 years. Now, as our time together inevitably gets shorter and shorter, I can’t wait any longer for the right to finally marry the man I’ve loved all these years.
