Dreams

Waking dreams.  Are they daydreams?  Goals? Fantasies?  I guess it depends on the content.  Lately I’ve been consumed and terribly distracted by them.  I feel as if someone has programmed a remote control on me and keeps flipping the channels.  One minute I’m completely tuned into what is going on around me, and the next I’m lost in a mental rewrite of character development in Save the Lemmings!  Then I’m planning my shopping list, which all too easily switches to a visualization of me getting ‘the call’ because we all know that broccoli and publishing contracts are closely related.  Somewhere in there I imagine even loftier goals; such as dropping the used clothing at St. Vincent de Paul, starting my next WIP, hand taming the skittish lizard and getting to bed before Jay Leno starts.  I’m not finding it difficult to focus, just to stay that way.

It is wreaking havoc with my writing progress.  I’ll open Word and then start reading blogs and then think of a possible submission I wanted to look up only to be waylaid by and interesting article.  Next thing I know my ‘my-time’ is up for the day and I haven’t gotten anything actually done (except maybe a blog post).

Two of my children had to go through vision therapy to strengthen their eye muscles and improve their tracking abilities.  I feel like I need a mental version of that.  Anyone know of anything like that?  Anyone?  Anyone?
