World Name: Ivalice
Description: The environment of Ivalice ranges from place to place from the vast desert country of Rabanastre to the tropical jungles of the Viera to the vast Ozmone Plains, and frigid mountain Buromisace, and the floating sky city Bhujerba. Microclimates are caused by vast amounts of Mist (mystical energy that allows for the casting of magics) in the world. One minute you can be walking along a shoreline, the next you can find yourself in a tropical forest.
Ivalice is also rich in hidden dungeons and networking underground caverns. I wouldn't recommend going underground though. There are fell foes there waiting to fuck your shit up.
The links below give much more detailed specifics about this world than I can possibly fit into this little description, but for an overall feel, Ivalice is a traditional fantasy world wetting it's feet in the realms of magic-based technology.
Permanent portal location: Portals appear frequently in places of dense mist or where people commonly gather. They seem to appear around to the large orange or blue crystals that crop up throughout the world. If you have a teleport stone, you can use the portals to get back to Atlas.
