Absent Friends
He'd been to Abby's flat four times: once because Abby's car had broken down, once to help Connor sneak a rescued Rex back into the flat, once because it was Abby's birthday and there was a party, finally because someone had to clear it out.
It had been empty for months, the ARC paying the rent. Until Abby and Connor were declared dead.
Disillusioned by tenants vanishing without a trace, the owner had put it up for sale.
Becker stared grimly at the 'Sold' sign in the window.
They'd return, and find a new home.
He wished he believed that.
