No Room at the Inn Parts 1 and 2 - Primeval Drabbles

The thought of a proper bed after months of travelling through anomalies and having to kip on the ground was too good to pass up.

It was perhaps the 1960s, so although their clothes weren’t in style they also wouldn’t cause undue comment. Becker and Danny had briefly found work on a farm, and earned some money. It meant they could buy food, and equipment for the next trip. The rest could be splurged on getting a decent night’s sleep and a cooked dinner at the inn.

Disappointing, then, when the moment they arrived the sign went up: “No Vacancies.”

“We’re not supposed to interact with people in case we change the timelines,” Emily warned. “It’s a strict rule. The tribe has always stuck to it.”

Jess looked longingly at the hostelry’s sign. “Just one night. We have money. And look, it’s New Year. Last New Year was so awful. I don’t want to spend this one sleeping in a cold field. Please, Emily. We don’t need to talk to anyone.”

It would mean briefly separating from the tribe. Risky. But Emily weakened - the temptation of a soft bed too much.

“You’re in luck, Ladies!” the innkeeper grinned. “Last room!”
