father is disgusted by snakes

School is not fun, but immensely enjoyable. In my little world I have learned two things: New York is filled with unique people, and fashion is full of personalities, from big to small -- blah blah blah. But, they are truths, and I am baffled at how fashion design brings together such a huge range of characters, personal/design philosophies, interests, tastes, and eccentricities. It's just so cute. Stereotypes are lame and offensive (even the slightest bit of nastiness + prejudice), funny-but-true, natural and necessary things! At least to me, categorization is essential and meaningful while compartmentalization allows me to deal with reality in my head first and in ~life~ second. That is why I hate having a blackberry.

Snakeskin is too, too beautiful... I don't think I've ever admitted or decided it, but snakes are my favorite reptiles (because you were just dying to know). All but the last photo are works of Guido Mocafico. It's funny and I'm not surprised that what immediately comes to mind are 1) TEXTILE! I want!!! 2) Concepts projects... 3) individual and collective peoples I have seen and/or gotten to know around my program

Surface thoughts:

-Probably the most popular color combination ever.. edgy as all hell!~~ hehe
-1) Alllll those all-black collections 2) All those times the black gouache wasn't black enough

-The Balenciaga obsessed
-The Lanvin obsessed

-The Margiela obsessed
-The Mcqueen obsessed

-When the paint was too bright to be the fabric because we tried too hard
-When the paint was not as bright as the fabric because we stopped caring

-People with horrible color theory
-People with impeccable color theory, so genius it gives me anxiety

-Rushed, careless, sloppy, lazy, or just terribly illustrated prints
-Those 2 projects with the PERFECT and meticulously drawn HERRINGBONE illustrations. Even for the flats. Perfect/insane people.

-People who don't mind the little mistakes and mess-ups and love the hand-crafted&imperfect aesthetic
-Perfectionists

-Creativity that just doesn't look right or is questionable...
-Those genius designs I wish would just come to life <3

-Projects we can't seem to remember doing anymore
-The beautiful designs that almost go unnoticed but after pointing out, are too beautiful to look away from

-The occasional figures with huge shoes and feet
-The fact that everyone else in the world thinks our figures look like aliens because they're too effing thin! heehee

I think it’s funny and actually I couldn’t be more pleased with the situation. When I was growing up, I always had this feeling that I had been dropped in from somewhere else. That was how I was treated at school in Iceland where the kids used to call me ‘China girl’ and everybody thought I was unusual because I looked Chinese. It gave me room to do my own thing. In school, I was mostly on my own, playing happily in my private world making things, composing little songs. If I can get the space I need to do my own thing by being called an alien, an elf, a China girl, or whatever, then that’s great! I think I’ve only realised in the past few years what a comfortable situation that is. -Björk

Interviews can sometimes be my favorite things in the world.
