Swoopo is pure concentrated German evil. It's a uBid style site where you bid on underpriced items and every bid puts time back on the clock for the end of the auction. The twist is that you have to pay for every bid you make and every bid increments the "winning" price by 1 cent. So sure, you might win an iPod for 30 bucks, but you paid 300 in "bidding fees". Brilliant in its elegance and exploitation of game theory.

Boredom at work is a terrible thing. However, instead of getting a Facebook profile like all the cool kids, I click on links at random that I'm reasonably sure aren't porn.
Wikipedia wandering is the most effective boredom cure. Look something up, read the entry, and click on a few related links before you leave the main article. Viola! Your afternoon is now filled with learning...or reading about comic book superheroes. Whatever works.
