Dear Yuletide Writer,
First of all, hello hello hello! It is incredibly nice of you to participate and I am absolutely tingling with anticipation and excitement to read your piece! This is my very first time doing Yuletide and so I am especially excited.
On the whole, I am a big fan of stories that take a little quirk or tidbit of information from the canon and then expand on it. That is, I really love character studies and I do find myself drawn to characters that rather puzzle me. Oftentimes this means that the stories are angsty, but I love happy fluffy stories just as much. Ratings-wise, I tend to prefer stories that actually don’t have any sort of sex at all, but if it fits with the story, I enjoy all the way up to NC-17 as well.
Now, onto the specific requests!
Request #1: Tower Prep
Suki Sato, Ian Archer, Don Finch, Gabe Forrest
Suki - Suki is my shipping bicycle (that’s the phrase, right?). I ship her with everyone. But I especially ship her with Ian, even though I am well-aware that I am probably supposed to ship him with CJ. I personally felt that there was a lot of chemistry between the two of them. I would love it if there was a fic of this pairing, either how they come to be, or cute moment(s) where they realize they like each other/are already together and are just being cute. I would also be intrigued with anything dedicated to just Suki herself - perhaps more about what her home life was like or why she dreamed the things she did in that dream episode.
Ian - So, to me, Ian has a tad bit of a hero complex going on. I’d be really intrigued by something in which this hero complex gets him in trouble and he’s taken down a peg or two. Also, the first episode gave a little glimpse into what his life was like before Tower Prep and I’d be interested in a backstory about him.
Don - In case you need a refresher, Don is one of Ian’s initial roommates (the red-head) who rather disappeared after that first episode. I also shipped him with Suki (like everyone else), based on the small scene where she’s in Ian’s bed pretending to be him and talking with Don and Ray about her. I would also be interested in some sort of backstory of Don, perhaps where he went after that first episode.
Gabe - Gabe is just adorable. I’d love some more delving into his character, going further than just his funny exterior. In terms of prompts, perhaps going into why hypersuasion is his power or a story making light of why Señor Guapo is so important to him.
Request #2: Skins (UK)
Cassie Ainsworth, Mini McGuinness, Tony Stonem
Soo remember how I tend to be drawn to characters that somewhat puzzle me? That would explain these three character choices. They’re all three rather fascinating personalities and I would love any sort of digging deeper into their characters. Of course, that’s a rather broad request, so here are some prompts!
Cassie - Cassie’s episode in the first series remains my favorite episode of the entire show. My favorite favorite line is when Sid says, “Just seems a bit fucked up, that’s all” and Cassie responds, “Oh wow - but you see, it’s like nobody’s fucking business. And it’s not exactly like anybody cares, so -” I also really love her video diary (http://www.e4.com/video/XbeGr1WhRtWZoHOrNKnhwu/play.e4
) especially when she says “I love things so much I feel like I can float away.”
So perhaps a prompt would be to explain some of the things on that list of things she likes and doesn’t like in that video diary. Or perhaps, what other quirky talents would Cassie possess (Her dad is an artist, after all - did she inherit that?)? I also support Cassie/Sid (although I am totally down for Cassie/Tony, too and I did love the friendship with Chris).
Mini - Mini is really such an intriguing character. She’s so polarizing and the reactions to her are always so extreme - from what I gather, people absolutely hated her in the beginning and then after her episode, it went the completely opposite way and people loved her. I am actually not too big of a Mini/Franky shipper - I haven’t quite settled on who I ship her with, although I do like the burgeoning friendship she has with Alo. I would love, in general, an exploration of Mini’s personality through her relationships with her friends. For example, we got a taste of Mini and Liv’s friendship when they were younger with that video they had made. What are some other scenes from their friendship? Or perhaps an exploration of her relationship with her mother - I think her relationship with her mom is really interesting as well.
Tony - To be honest, I personally don’t really understand Tony at all (Hopefully this means that I am not as manipulative as he is?) so anything that explains his development would be great. I am also particularly interested in his relationship with Effy (No Stonemcest, though, please) as a framework for understanding his personality.
Request #3: The Year of Secret Assignments - Jaclyn Moriarty
Emily Thompson, Charlie Taylor, Cassie Aganovic, Paul Wilson
Emily - I am really fond of Emily. I love her funny use of common sayings, her excessive use of punctuation marks like the exclamation mark (I love them, too, you see), her judgments on a place based on its bathrooms, etc. I also think her parents are hilarious.
Emily/Charlie - I love love love Emily/Charlie and so I would love any cute story of them. As a prompt, at one point or another, Emily talks about rules for what a boy must be like - what other qualifications would Emily expect in a boy and does Charlie meet them or not? Or how Emily seems to fantasize and layout how she hopes things will pan out - Emily would probably come up with some sort of itinerary and Charlie would probably completely botch it in some hilarious manner.
Charlie - So as a prompt, Charlie seems to initially be a bit of a fail at picking up girls. A backstory of this would be awesome. In general, though, I heart Charlie, so any lighthearted story about him would be great.
Cassie - I would enjoy an angsty story about Cassie - out of the three main characters, her story is the most heartbreaking. With that said, I could also enjoy a really happy story about her as well - I feel like you don’t get as much cheerful silliness out of her character as you do with Emily and Lydia. For your inspiration, here are some things about Cassie that I find intriguing: her sarcasm, her contrariness, her hand-in-the-air syndrome.
Emily/Cassie/Lydia - Any story of their friendship is lovely. Futurefic and also backstory are awesome as well.
Paul - Obviously the bad guy, but is he as smarmy and terrible as he seems? …Probably, but it’s an interesting thought, no?
