“Well,” Chase Stein’s voice came over the communication link, his movements barely nanoseconds behind the sounds. “I’m glad to hear that all of the moronic adults have quit their dumbass fighting. Your team’s okay, right?”

“[Yes.]” the Vision replied. “[Everyone is just fine. Cassie was actually a mole for the anti-registration side.]”

“Cassie?” Chase was elbowed aside by Victor Mancha and the Vision had a brief close-up view of his relation’s nostrils. “You let-”

“[I do not “let” Cassie do anything, Victor Mancha.]” The Vision replied as Chase tried to wrestle his seat back from the cyborg. “[She’s her own person and she made her own choice. I didn’t even know that the option had been extended to her.]”

The older Runaway managed to reclaim his chair, so Victor leaned over his shoulder so he could continue to participate in the conversation. Chase elbowed him in the chest.

“Yo Tin Man, is it okay for you and Spark-Plug here to be talking? I’d rather not have you two mind-melding with the ‘Frog if it’s all the same.”

“[It should be fine.]” the Vision replied. “[It’s a more secure connection than a television broadcast or physical contact.]”

“I’ll just try not to elbow the controls too much.” Victor said agreeably. “So-”

“Vision? Who are you talking to?”

The two Runaways on the other end of the line went silent, Victor’s face transforming into a goofy grin and Chase’s into a slightly bewildered expression, as if he had just been reminded of something that he hadn’t thought he could forget.

“[Chase Stein and Victor Mancha, Cassie.]” the Vision explained to the blonde girl. He wondered if Chase had mentioned the apparent psychic feedback to Victor. If the brief, not even full-merge that the Vision and Chase had participated it had been enough to plant some of the Vision’s feelings for Cassie into Chase’s head; then surely similar information had passed between the Vision and Victor.

“Oh! Hi!” Cassie said, leaning over Vision’s shoulder and beaming at the screen. “How are you guys?”

“We’re good.” Victor said. A silence seemed to stretch. “Vision was just telling us about your thrilling heroics in the world of spying.”

“It wasn’t exactly thrilling.” Cassie said, making a face. “They didn’t tell me much, since I’m underaged, but you’d be surprised as to how many places you can sneak when you can shrink to the size of a bug.”

The conversation skipped around a little bit before Cassie was called away to deal with something. Silence reigned for a few minutes.

“Damn.” Chase murmured, shaking his head. “Vision, a word of advice? Find some way to stop creating psychic feedback. Or else the whole damn world is going to fall in love with her.”
