My plan for the NHL.

It appears the only people who missed me were female. How interesting...

Anyways, the NHL season is pretty much officially over. And, big surprise...no one really cares. I care, but not to the point where I can or will actually do anything about it. Except, of course, for this tirade. I can't believe that these players would care so little about their sport and what they do that they would throw it away like this. Greedy bastards. All of them. I hope the league folds because of them.

I'm not kidding about that, by the way. I hope the league DOES fold, because I think it would lead to even better opportunities. If I were some kind of "Master of All Things Hockey" (or MATH, for short), I would do things this way:

- Completely remove the NHL from existence. Leave the Stanley Cup in Tampa Bay, for purposes of irony.

- Form an international governing body for hockey, similar to FIFA, perhaps with a primary tier of constituents (maybe Canada, Russia, Sweden, Czech Republic and the US). We'll call it the IHF. International rules will be adopted throughout all leagues worldwide.

- A new league with 15-20 in cities across the US forms (we'll call it the USHA) as well as a similar league in Canada (we'll call that one the CHA). They will act independently of each other as separate leagues, but remain under the IHF umbrella. Leagues from dozens of other countries in Europe, Asia and wherever else people play hockey will also either form new leagues or take their current leagues and join the IHL. Phoenix, with its lack of snow, ice or anything else cold, will not get a team.

- Interleague and International play will be a regular part of every league and team's schedule. Rivalries between Canadian and American teams will quickly form, similar to the bitter hatred between teams like Real Madrid and Manchester United. Like FIFA, players are not bound to their own country's league and can be traded or sold between leagues and countries, but will play for their own National teams for competitions that require them to (Olympics, World Cup, etc.)

- National teams and World Cup events, besides now being governed by the IHF, will remain unchanged.

I kinda like this idea...I think it could work. It won't happen, of course...but you never know. Gary Bettman could be reading this right now, since he's obviously not doing anything constructive right now. The bottom line, though, is this - I love and miss hockey, and hope that something (be it my stupid idea or something sensical) can be figured out soon.
